Then they already are? Well, when you're the Miami Heat and you're constantly getting blown out and constantly televised nationally, and this goes for all cases when an NBA game is unexciting due to a blowout loss by a superior team, they should implent a new rule. The rule should be: No matter what the score is if the team with fewer points scores a basket from full court the score automatically becomes tied. However, this cannot be used once there is 5 minutes left in the game.

Great idea huh? I thought of it all by myself!!!! :hat :fro :smokin LMAO Seriously this rule should go in effect.

it's lateral thinking like this that the NBA needs. somebody get E20 a job interview with David Stern ASAP.

I think they should just let Dwyane Wade shoot free throws until the score is tied again.

Each basket in the last five minutes should count double (FT = 2 points, normal FG = 4 points, from beyond the arc = 6 points).

You only need 5 threes to come back from 30 point deficit.

They tried that already. It was called the 2006 Finals.

I think Tom Tolbert had this idea a couple years ago. The only problem is that once a team is down by a considerable margin, the game would degenerate into a half-court chucking fest on every other possession, and the team with the lead would just hold the ball, because no matter how many points they score, if the team thats down hits just one half court shot it'd be tied.
They should just put in 4 and 5 point lines, and a shot from beyond half court should be a 10-pointer.

Dunks could also earn a proportional amount of points relative to the hangtime the player achieves. If the player stays in the air for more than 2 seconds or takes off from behind the dots, an exponential score is added to the 2 points. This is then multiplied by the number of players the scorer just dunked over.

In other words, if LeBron takes off from the free throw line, hangs in the air for two seconds, and goes past three unsuspecting pistons, the score would be 2 by a factor of 5. Therefore, it's a dunk that's worth 32 points. Simple.

They should build a time machine, go to the late 80s, see how basketball was officiated, how they called techs and how they suspended players then, then re-teach what they saw in present time.

Wow...they actually had technical fouls in the NBA back in the '80s??? I must've missed that... :lol

They should have power plays sort of liek the NHL. Both teams can use this option only once per game and if there is less than 5 minutes remaining then they can't, but basically one team has to play 2 on 5 for 2 minutes.

4 point shot. Legal at anytime from beyond half-court.
If fouled in the act, 4 FT attempts.
It would make for more drama in the final minute of games as well as make FT shotting with the lead all the more important....not to mention strategy as in guarding not only the 3-point line but the half-court line as well.

And the 2006 WCSF, with Nowitzki in place of Wade.

Take time off the shotclock. 17 second shotclock.

Oh, and I've always thought beyond halfsies should be 4. Why not?
