A survey of sex therapists concluded the optimal amount of time for sexual intercourse was three to 13 minutes. The findings, to be published in the May issue of the Journal of Sexual Medicine, strike at the notion that endurance is the key to a great sex life.

I heard this a couple of weeks ago on a local radio show. Like The best was between 7-13 minutes and anything over 15 was considered too long and dragging it out.

thats bullshit. when she is super hot and you're horny as hell, you don't want to stop after 10-15 minutes.

It'd be awesome if I could sustain a 10-minute orgasm.

It mentions that the study is counting only intercourse and not foreplay, but it doesn't give any other details. Is this a sustained three to 13 minutes? Is it all in one position? If so, then I would be inclined to agree.

Yea 13 minutes in one position is a long time. But with all the stopping, starting, and shifting around it's got to be longer than that. Maybe they only studied couples who have been together 20+ years.

I've never paid much attention to it but now that I think about it I see some good times to come.

Now I'll be thinking about sex around the clock.

Yeah, this is highly variable. I mean, that 3-13 minutes surely doesn't include the foreplay, which can often go on for hours, and then you if you vary up your positions and draw it out it can pleasurably go a lot longer than 15 minutes... although sometimes all you both want is to go hard for 5 or 10 minutes and get it done so to speak. There is no "norm" as far as sex is concered methinks...

The wife and I just clocked in at around 8 minutes and let me tell you if felt like a lot longer than that.

I stand corrected. The wife just informed me that "I" came in at 8 minutes and that she could have gone on longer. :oops

Its all relative. When you first meet, if the guy last only three minutes, the woman is bitching to her friends about the "new three minute wonder" she is dating. On the other hand, if you've been with a woman a long time, anything past 20 minutes and they are threatening divorce or leaving.

Mood certainly counts for a lot, but CF is right about position changes. As long as you are changing up it every 3-5 minutes or so, it's fine. But really, after about 5 minutes in the same position, is anyone not thinking "OK, let's wrap this up?"

As for length - well, doesn't that depend on the length and circumference of the vagina?

I always vary tempo and angles, and with the changing positions it usually goes from 25 to an hour or so. Ive never had a woman complain or give the impression it was too long, but using different techniques, tempo, and hitting her spots at different times keeps it from getting repetitive for the woman.

As far as length goes, isn't the average about 5 1/4"? I think a better question is optimal width. Thickness definitely goes a long way, so to speak.

Yea I remember reading it was actually a really low number something like that. Alot of guys must just lie about it to eachother and to the women, you'll never hear a guy claiming 5 inches!

And another thing....why do all these researchers always decide that sex is as good as a man can last? I don't know but so what if my partner only goes for 5 minutes, doesn't mean we are done! As long as he's paying some attention and I'm making him feel good, we're on!!

Soul_Patch

I think the actual dick in the hole part of sex is just the icing on teh cake...the real sex happens before and after that part.

Actual fucking, id say 5 to 15 minutes is probably about right, my wife usually has an orgasm way before im close, usually within the first few minutes of fucking...sometimes it is a struggle to keep her interested after that, which pisses me off :)

...the whole event...hourish...depending on the day or time...sometimes a lot longer, or if we are trying to get somewhere quick, or have plans and just want a quicky...the entire event can be about 10 minutes.

And I've read that the vagina only has sensation the first third of the way down. So girth would definitely be more important than length.
