Jeff McDonald: They can't take our dignity
When we walked into the Spurs practice facility this morning, our eyes were immediately drawn to the man in the kilt.
It seems a local radio personality thought it would be a good idea to cover a Spurs practice while dressed from the waist down in traditional Scottish garb. We won't embarrass this reporter by mentioning his name in this space, but we will say he works for WOAI and it rhymes with Schmalter Schmashacrita.
Anyway, he looked a little like Mel Gibson in "Braveheart," if William Wallace had worn Nikes and tried to secure an interview with Gregg Popovich (which, admittedly, can at times be only slightly less daunting than battling Edward the Longshanks).
They can take our lives. But apparently, they can't take our dignity.
It turns out Schmashacrita was humiliating himself for charity, so we've got to give him props for that. A quick, unscientific poll taken after practice revealed that nobody else at the practice facility would have had the guts to dress that way, charity or no.
"You'll never catch me in a kilt," Michael Finley said. "If you do, admit me to the nearest crazy house. Or drug rehab."
