I drove down to the Quarry in Jan. to sign up for Bally's 2-month free membership. The guy gave a good tour, answered my questions well. Lots of great machines. But it's too far, 15-20 min each way. I didn't go back.
Plus, while I'm not squeamish or germ-obsessed, following strangers' greasy, sweaty asses, arms, legs, hands on the equipment is fairly distasteful.
At home, I got dumbbells for resistance, and a road bike for aerobic. Thinking of building pullup bar, and a climbing rope on a tree in the backyard. No time/gas lost commuting. Couldn't be happier. AND IT'S FREE CHEZ MOI.

Living in a house must be great; you can use your basement for a home gym.
I live in an appartment, with an exercise mat and 2*15 pound dumbells; talk about reaching a plateau in seconds :D

My gym is a good 1/2 hour away. If my gym were like 10 minutes away that would be sweet. Sometimes I actually leave the house fired up. But by the time I take that drive to the gym, getting on the beltway, belting in and out of traffic, more times than none I'm usually tired as hell once I actually get there. It usually takes me a few minutes to get warmed up again.

Yeah actually there is. But at the time I joined this club they were one of the few gyms in MD that boasted a full court basketball arena, a pool, tons of equipment, and the key thing space. I have a few Bally's close to me, but they are small and congested. But I may be switching to another gym soon that is about 15 minutes from my house, and is 24 hours. The gym I'm at now has since closed down the basketball court, took key equipment out that I use, and has up'ed the rates to $95 a month. So it's safe to assume that I will be leaving there soon. Now I'm just trying to look around at a few other gyms before I leave.

Mine is a good 20 away. It really pisses me off. Gas prices, and the fact that I just am not a fan enough of a 20 minute drive unfortunately keeps me at home a little more than I'd like to admit.

You don't have one that's closer?
Studies prove the closer a gym is the more you will use it (don't ask me to prove because I am too damn lazy right now, www.google.com u sumbitches.)
I cannot stand globo gyms so the Y is great for me. Huge windows in the front so I don't feel trapped in a exercise cubicle.

They needed a study to conclude that ? :lmao
My membership at the Y has just expired; it's close to my job, but now that I'm going to a gym that's 2 minutes away from my place, I'm happy.
It's has both "windowed" / "cubicly" spaces, and a summertime swimming-pool (with a wet bar ! :D)

Unless you know something that I don't :depressed
I'm @ on Canyon Springs (golf course) and I'm with Gold's. I'm pretty sure the nearest is Thousand Oaks, and it seems the best (Gold's) is in the forum. An extra 5 or 7 minutes, but that goes to show how fuckin lazy I am. I'm fine once I'm thereand can motivate myself (i.e. "you drove all this way just to work out an hour pussy??!!??!"), I just hate the drive. :td

Well it would seem it needs a thread too so why not a study? :lol

Super duper Spectrum Athletic Club being built at 281 and Evans. I just joined Triton (old Thousand Oaks Raquet Club); the place is enormous, and it has a full service bar!!! :drunk It's about a 10 minute drive from where I live near BushMS.

There's a 24 Hour Fitness about 5 minutes away from me. But I hate the fact that everyone from school goes there. So instead of actually getting my membership, I went and bought a bike so now I can get some sun and work out.
