Obviously you cant win with ghetto ball. You have to learn fundamentals..........ball control and free throws. You can just play streetball and expect to win. Kansas deserved the game....props to them.
I was wrong and I admit it.

if you switch calipari and self, memphis wins this game by 20.
Memphis has better players, but KU had a better strategy and better tactics.
Self has long been one of the best game-day coaches in the country.
Calipari fits into the same group as Roy Williams, Coach K, and Tubby Smith. They're monster recruiters who will always assemble one of the best teams in the country. But you have to think long and hard to come up with a handful of games where any of those guys have won with lesser talent.

coaching was a big difference IMO.
Kansas in game adjustements were off the charts.
Great game by both teams, and the more saavy team won, like always.

I almost couldn't watch this game because it was just fastbreak after fastbreak by MEM. That team makes the Warriors look like the Spurs on offense.

Calipari ran Rose and CDR into the ground the second half, and neither had the legs to shoot it at the end.
And he should have fouled up 3 late. Dumbass.

John Calipari called a reporter an ethnic name to a mexican back in 1997
Karma came and bit him.

So glad those fuckers lost. I live 10 minutes away from Memphis. It'll be sad that the biggest bandwagon team in the country sees the bus get a lot lighter after tonight :lol

Too much depth. We were able to rotate both the frontcourt and backcourt all game long.
And Memphis hasn't had to face a top tier defense like they did tonight.
And as happy as I am w/ the win, I'm also just as happy that we got to see a quality, competitive game during a National Championship.

Sorry about the ghetto ball comment..........bad choice of words. I was just disappointed that Memphis gave that game away. They just run and gunned at the end of the game. No set offense at all. Yes, they missed tons of free throws.....but Calipari should have called a timeout and ran a play or two.

Hey K-State.....Askia Jones used to live down the street from me when he was a 10yr old kid. Im a few yrs. older than he is. He played at my highschool....was a star player. I remember he played a friend of mine in a basketball game when he was 10yrs old to 10. My friend was 20yrs old. The score was tied at 9 and Ski hit a rainbow 25ft. jumpshot and beat my buddy 10-9. I laughed my ass off.......I knew this kid was special. :fro

Yeah, Ski had a great career for the Cats. Unfortunately he was there during an era where they surrounded him with virtually nobody else who could consistently put the ball in the hoop.

Memphis is the second best team by a wide margin and came within 3 seconds and a desperation 3 from being national champs. I would say there's nothing wrong with Memphis or their coach, sometimes the better team wins.
Kansas by the way easily had the best starting five.

WRONG!!!! How in the world do you see that? It was poor freethrows and very, very poor coaching that GAVE that game away. All Calipari had to do is call a time out and tell his players.......give Kansas a two or foul them. DO NOT LET KANSAS GET OFF A 3 POINTER!!!!! But, he decided to let them play and hoist up a game tying 3.
I would say Memphis blew that game more than Kansas won it.
Not dissing Kansas......because they were given opportunities to come back and they did. They took advantage. Congrats!!!

Yeah, pummeling Texas and every other program to get to the finals and lose by a deseperation 3 is nothing to be proud of. I'll look for UTSA to do better.

That translates as "Memphis has a bunch of darkies on their team that like to dribble the ball between their legs and make fancy behind the back passes."

The offense that Menphis was running was an ISO offense for their playmaker Rose with everybody spacing the floor and rotating to spots for Rose to pass to in case the defense rotates. Similar stuff to what the Mavs do. They weren't playing ghetto or street ball, you just don't recognize the ISO set.
Self almost single handedly gave the game away by switching from the man to man defense and hedge on P&R that worked so well to a box and 1 junk defense at one point in the second half. That let Rose and others get open looks by swinging the ball around the key and hitting the middle while CDR took his defender outside. Kansas was down 9 to begin with because of that mistake.

True, Rose bumped the guy who made the pass. But he barely bumped him as he was holding both hands back with the lame "I didn't foul anybody" body language, almost like the bump was accidental, in fact i think it was. College rules allow you to *intentionally* foul as long as you make it look like you are going for the ball. As soon as the dribbler crossed half court and most certainly as he slid under the three point arc Memphis should have simply hacked down at the ball. Two FT attempts, ballgame.
The percentage of the time a made FT followed by a missed FT followed by an offensive rebound followed by a made basket is very very low.
Dumb strategy allowing the trey indeed.

I never said they played disciplined, I said they ran an ISO set and were not just playing street ball. Maybe they could have done different things, but Rose and CDR are their horses and they ran ISO sets for them.

Lets just drop it. Memphis lost with crappy free throw shooting and poor coaching in the last 2 min.
Congratulations goes out to the Jayhawks :elephant
