Who will we face in the Finals?????

Laker fans, we are the presumed team to come out of the West by media outlets and fans everywhere. I have more than enough faith in this team and in Kobe, Phil and Co. in getting it done. Sorry fans of other west teams. Just my opinion. :toast

My question is who do you think will come out in the East. I know the popular team to pick is the Celtics, but I think it'll be Detroit. I just think they are more battle tested and I think Garnett has proven that he folds in the playoffs. A Laker team(or any team who survives the west) that has survived the West will be more battle tested than a team like the Pistons and Celts(and to a lesser extents the Cavs I guess) who has breezed through the East and played maybe one good playoff series.

The team that represents the East(Detroit IMO) won't know what hits them when a battle tested West team meets them in the finals.

I welcome fans of all teams to join this conversation even if you have a different opinion on who will survive the west. I was just poking fun with my thread title. :fro

You fail at this argument completly. The Laker team with Malone and Payton didn't choke. They were beaten by a better team all together. Same thing in 03. The Spurs were the better team. Thats why you play the game. All those subsequent years can't be considered choking for us because we didn't have a teams that were championship caliber or that were true contenders. We were as we were seeded, one of the bottom 8 teams in the West those years. We were good enough to make the playoffs....

Now on to the Mavericks who HAVE CHOKED the last 2 years. Your Mavs beat a damn good Spurs team and were a better team than Shaq's Heat. But you CHOKED! Last year you all had what, 67 wins? And you lose to an 8 seed? The Mavs were a better team than the Warriors, but they CHOKED again. Pressure must be a bitch for Dirk in the playoffs huh?

I don't have faith in the Jazz or Lakers. Neither of them play very good defense, especially the Jazz. And I just think the Jazz are better built for the regular season, but doesn't stand a chance against the Suns, Spurs, Mavs, or Lakers. And the Lakers have way too many mental lapses. As nice as the addition of Gasol was, his defense is not good enough. They MUST have a healthy, more experience Bynum down low if they want to win a title, because their defense is too inconsistent. They have players capable of playing good defense in Kobe, Odom, Fisher, but they are all WAY too inconsistent. and none of their bench players play a LICK of defense, except Turiaf, but he always fouls out after about 5 minutes of play.

The Hornets are an interesting team, but I think they will kinda be like last year's Jazz... if they go far, it will be more because of luck than anything. They aren't ready for a title, and won't beat the Spurs or Mavs in a 7 game series.

As much as I hate to say it... I think the Suns MIGHT have a better chance of repping the west in the Finals than the Jazz or Lakers. But I still think the west goes through the Spurs first, then Mavs second.

And you guys may think im being a homer or whatever... but do not underestimate these Mavericks even though they have had a pretty rough season...

The Lakers, sans Bynum, aren't going anywhere in the playoffs. Pau is not a defensive anchor, that's not what he was brought here for. He was brought in for his offensive capabilities to lighten the scoring load on Kobe. Bynum and Ariza are the last pieces of the puzzle. Collectively they patch up a lot of deficiencies the Lakers have on the defensive end.......rebounding, shotblocking, perimeter defense, etc. We need them healthy and contributing if we are gonna make a run. A lot of things will have to go right for that to happen this season, but stranger things have happened in the NBA.

Jazz can play physical good defense ...Problem is they can be taken advantage of if you have size inside.. Boozer is not a good defender neither is Okur.

They really are not a smart defensive team for the most part. Not even AK-47 is that smart of a defender IMO, but he just has such long fucking arms and good jumping ability that he can make up for stuff when people blow by him. Thats my opinion.

They are a pretty big team, so they take up a lot of space inside the arc. When the Spurs last played them, it was difficult for anyone not named Tony Parker to get to the rim consistently. They also played some pretty smart D on Timmy by doubling him late, when he started to dribble. They played good half-court defense on us, but they are probably not as good in transition D or when there's better ball movement.

But I fully believe the Lakers with a healthy Bynum and a healthy Ariza will roll over all the West teams. They'll roll the Pistons if they meet up as well.

Lakers have a huge problem on the inside right now because Pau has not learned how to play defense with the Lakers yet. He's only an average defender in the paint. The Lakers right now are a poor defensive team compared to the Elite's like Spurs and Hornets.

However, with Bynum back to shore up the middle (not so much for his offense), the Lakers are instantly lock down defenders once again.

We all like Bynumite for his offense but speak little of the defense. Prior to the injuries to Bynum and Ariza, the Lakers were in the top 3 defensive teams in the league when looking at opponent field goal %. No easy waltzing into the paint or offensive rebounds which is killing the Lakers right now.

With 3 agile Towers, teams that win through guard penetration are screwed ala Suns, Spurs, Hornets.

Healthy Bynum = meeting up with Celtics or Pistons... no doubt in my mind

No healthy Bynum and the Lakers will be fishing with Ernie, Kenny and Charles sooner rather than later.

3 teams with 25 losses...Spurs, Lakers, Rockets. Utah and Phoenix with 26 losses. Spurs can very likely end up as a #5 or #6 seed if they lose to the Lakers on Sunday. Utah and Suns both own the tiebreaker over the Spurs.
