Andrew Oliver tied a career-high with 10 strikeouts in the complete game win.
STILLWATER, Okla. — Andrew Oliver pitched a three-hit, complete game shutout to lead Oklahoma State to a 1-0 win over No. 6 Nebraska Friday night at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Oliver, a sophomore southpaw, tied a career high with 10 strikeouts and did not allow a walk as the 20th-ranked Cowboys improved to 22-9 overall and 7-6 in Big 12 Conference play. The win was OSU’s fourth in a row and puts the Pokes over the .500 mark in the league for the first time this season.
The Cowboys got the game’s only run in the sixth. Michael Dabbs led off the inning with a fly ball to left-centerfield that NU centerfielder Bryce Nimmo appeared to have a play on. But Nimmo lost his footing and the ball dropped in to give Dabbs a triple.
That brought Jordy Mercer to the plate, and the Cowboys’ shortstop delivered a single through a drawn-in Nebraska infield to plate Dabbs with what proved to be the winning run. Mercer’s hit also extended his season-long hitting streak to 10 games.
Nebraska saw its three-game winning streak come to an end as the Huskers fell to 24-5-1 overall and 10-2-1 in league play. Johnny Dorn (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season despite striking out seven and allowing only four hits.
The Huskers could do nothing offensively against Oliver, who was perfect through the first five innings until a single by Nimmo to lead off the sixth.
Oliver faced just two batters over the minimum and tossed the first complete game of his career. His previous career-long outing was seven innings, which he had reached three times this season.
Friday’s contest also marked a first in Reynolds Stadium history as it was the first 1-0 game since the stadium opened on April 4, 1981.
