So what happens if you owe? I would rather just have the check automatically go towards my balance.

I think originally it was supposed to be May, but they went back and forth on the amount for a while. Thats why I think that it is now June.

What a joke of an economic policy. Don't go for real economic reform, give out money to the entire populace, who will then most likely spend it on consumer goods, most of which are IMPORTED (ie. will not generate domestic employment).

I'd like to hear Scott's opinion on this.

I just brought a PS3 over the weekend. I need that money to get me a HD TV. Don;t worry about Western Union, the standard mail will be fine.

Its only 300 if "In general, the rebate amount can't be more than your net tax liability, which is your tax liability before subtracting refundable credits and child credits. But even if you have no net tax liability, you can still qualify for a rebate of $300 as a single filer or $600 as a joint filer if you have at least $3,000 in income from a job or self-employment, or from Social Security or veterans' benefits."

Ours is going one of two places, depending on where we are with the credit card at that moment - the remaining credit card balance (getting so close to paid off) or the savings account. The question will be, if it goes to the savings account, does it stay there as part of our emergency fund or does it ultimately get used as a down payment for the bathroom remodel? Probably the same thing either way you look at it (she says glumly). :depressed

Go ahead and remodel the bathroom; it will be much more expensive when it's an emergency!

Oh the bathroom is getting remodeled. The question is simply how we will afford it. We won't be getting quotes until mid-summer whatever happens, because it will hold out that long and I am adament that we get our e-fund where it needs to be first. We've gone for far too long without a cushion in savings, and now that the damn credit card is nearly paid off, I want to ensure it stays that way.

Then the question becomes how much will it cost to have someone come in and redo the bathroom (which is not vanity or cosmetic - tile is coming up and the tub has hairline cracks), how long will it take, and how will we pay for it? We haven't gotten that far yet. It's so depressing. I'm tired of being a responsible adult - I'd rather use the money to take a vacation and see a part of the country we've never seen.
