Spurs vs. Suns By The Numbers

1-There has only been one “sweep” in eight all-time playoff match-ups between the Spurs and Suns. The Suns swept the Spurs out of the playoffs in the first round of the 1992 playoffs. The Suns beat the Spurs 117-111 (4/24/92), 119-107 (4/26/92), and 101-92 (4/29/92) to push the Spurs into the off season.

3-The Spurs have beaten the Suns in three consecutive playoff meetings. The most recent series victory came in the 2007 Western Conference Semifinals when the Spurs beat the Suns in six games. The Spurs also beat the Suns in five games in the 2005 Western Conference Finals and in the first round of the 2003 playoffs in six games.

3a-In 38 playoff games between the Spurs and Suns all time, the Suns have managed just six wins vs. the Spurs in San Antonio. The Suns managed to take a game away from the Spurs at home in all of the Spurs last three championship runs. The Spurs are 33-12 all time at home in the playoffs since moving into the AT&T Center for the 2002-03 season.

5-Five all-time playoff series victories in the Spurs’ history have come against the Phoenix Suns. The Spurs knocked the Suns out of the playoffs in 2007, 2005, 2003, 1998, and 1996. The Spurs went on to championships in three (’07,’05,’03) of those five years.

8-The Suns and Spurs have met in eight playoff series in their team’s history. The Spurs and Suns have met five times in the Tim Duncan era with the Spurs winning four of those five series, and five of the eight all time series.

Tim Duncan leads the Spurs in all time playoff appearances with 138. Robert Horry is second on the all time list for career playoff games played, and is only eight appearances away from passing the all time leader Kareem Abdul Jabbar (237).
