Yeah, although when Shaq was in in the second half:
-Manu and Tony finally stepped up
-Tim knew when to step back
-The Spurs started cutting into the lead.

Tim kept them in the game--hell, kept them in the arena--in the first half, then picked his spots brilliantly in the second half.

He could have gone for sixty but he knew he wasn't going to be able to win the game by himself. He let others get rolling and then knew exactly when it was his time.

As far as basketball IQ and team instincts, this was an off the charts performance by Duncan.

I was afraid Nash was gonna hit a 2 after Tim's 3... Dude is really nails. That's a guy I respect, despite his lack of defense!

I agree with Tim when he once said that he wished Nash would win one before retiring.

As long as he wins it in 2009 or 2010 as the Spur's back up PG! :D

Sick. That game was absolutely sick. It personfied why fans of the Spurs are proud of the team. It's not just things like Tim's unselfishness and willpower to win and do anything to get it done. It's not just their constant execution in the crunch time. It's not just the fact that Pop knew to angle Finley just right on the inbounds pass and Bowen knew just how to deny the ball from Nash that forced the Suns to call a TO and use their last one. It's not just that Pop was smart not to call a TO with time dwindling down and let Ginobili handle the game and go for the winning layup.

Spurs are the smartest team in the league. Their execution down to the tiniest of details like inbounds passing and plays outside of Timeouts is absolutely sick.

Amazing. So proud to be a Spurs fan right now. Winning the right way. :tu

Mad props to Tim. He just dominated every aspect of the game. He played smart, and he basically decided there was no way they were going to lose this game. All things considered, I was blown away by his performance which is crazy because I've been watching him since day one. I should expect these types of things from him by now. When I think about it, it's Duncan vs. Amare and Shaq. That's Tim Duncan vs. possibly two future hofers... And he destroyed them as if he was playing against a spoiled high school kid and 60 yo ymca gym rat. What a man.

Listening to the Hornets/Mavs game reminds me: I didn't hear once during the game Spur fans doing the "MVP" chant.

'Cause it's just expected. :fro

"Duncan's scared of Shaq"

:lmao I think that's the one that got me the most. Like Duncan is intimidated by anyone at this stage of his career. He sure shut the haters up today.

:lmao You're so right. In fact, I can't remember the last time (even last postseason) I heard the fans at the AT&T center chant MVP. Do they just not like to do that there?

I wasn't given the chance to watch this sensational game because we have no effing cable.. but reading your posts guys, and watching the video of Timmy's 3-pointer in youtube, still give me the goosebumps.. I wish I could've witnessed the actual game..

Dude, let me tell you, it was UNBELIEVABLE the way Timmy played today. He was the ONLY Spur who was bringing it in the first half, and the team looked down and out, but he would NOT lose this game to the Suns. I know just how great the man is. I've watched him win 4 Championships. I've seen him win 3 Finals MVP's and two regular season MVP's. But today, today, he absolutely BLEW MY MIND with his greatness. I am still in shock.

Best Spur Ever.

Everyone was saying how this was going to be the best series of Round 1 but I really didn't expect this for starters. Tim gave everyone notice that he truly is one bad mutherfucker.

Artest explained: "I remember one time Kevin Garnett was mushing him, and shoving him in the face; and Tim Duncan didn't do anything, he didn't react. He just kicked Kevin Garnett's a--, and won the damn championship. You know what I'm sayin'? That's gangsta. Everybody can show emotion, dunk on somebody, scream and be real cocky; but Tim Duncan is a ... he's a pimp."

I think Tim is mega motivated for this series and i knew all the Shaq can check me one on one crap was going to piss him off. I told Suns fans they better be worried about all that talk because Duncan as a competitor was going to come out with fire in his eyes looking to silence that crap. Shaq didn't do much at all on him, if anything it shows that Shaq is going to have a nightmare staying out of foul trouble being aggressive in the paint trying to block shots and checking Tim when Tim takes it right to him. Just a genius of a performance by Duncan today, truly "What greatness is all about"

There's no doubt about it, the Spurs are in the Suns' kitchen. They're making themselves at home, cooking up breakfast, having waffle fights, spilling the orange juice, and peeing in the silverware drawer just for the hell of it. And the Suns can't stop them.
