The Arizona Republic

SAN ANTONIO - Amaré Stoudemire's 33-point game provided plenty of highlights in Saturday's Game 1 first-round loss to the Spurs.

There was the 3-point play to give Phoenix a late lead in regulation. There his first-overtime strip of Manu Ginobili with Phoenix leading by three and 29.8 seconds remaining.

But two mistakes glared as much as his bright moments.
When Phoenix led by three at the end of regulation, Leandro Barbosa was screened twice as Michael Finley ran the baseline. When Finley came off the second pick by Fabricio Oberto to get to the 3-point line, the Suns' plan was to swtich on the perimeter, but Stoudemire sat back, and Finley sent the game to overtime.

With 29.6 seconds to go in overtime, Phoenix had a three-point lead and a chance to take the game clock to about six seconds, even with a miss. Stoudemire passed on a 10-footer in the lane and drove into former teammate Kurt Thomas, who got a charging call that set up Tim Duncan's game-tying 3-pointer and fouled out Stoudemire with double-overtime upcoming.

"Screen and roll," Stoudemire said of the play. "As soon as I caught the ball, I went to attack and didn't see Kurt at all. By the time I saw him, he was already on the ground. I think it was a great call by the official. It happens like that sometimes.

"That's tough to deal with when you're not there in double-overtime."

A great athlete, emotionally and intellectually stunted. Perhaps in his 30s, he'll be wiser and smarter.

At which point he probably won't be able to rely on his athleticism as much as he does now.

By the time he matures, the surgically repaired knees will be shot.

his main problem has been playing for d'antoni who has taught him to be a whinner rather than a fighter.

As I've said, he's intellectually challenged.

Put up or shut up, bitch. You're all mouth, so far. If they lose, will you take an IP ban from Kori and never darken our doorstep again?
