Rebel Ridling was 3-for-5 with two home runs, a triple and five RBIs in the win.

AUSTIN, Texas — Oklahoma State became the first-ever Big 12 Conference team to sweep Texas on its home field as the Cowboys overcame a six-run deficit for a 13-10 win Sunday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

OSU trailed 8-2 after five innings, but scored three runs in the sixth frame, five in the eighth and three in the ninth to earn the win.

With the victory, the 14th-ranked Cowboys moved into third place in the Big 12 standings at 11-7 and are now 27-11 overall. Texas fell to 23-16 overall and 8-10 in league play.

OSU’s sweep marked only its second ever of the Longhorns in a three-game series, with the other coming in 1999 in Stillwater. The Cowboys also become the first team to sweep UT in a three-game series at Disch-Falk Field since 1996, when Cal State-Fullerton did it.

First baseman Rebel Ridling led the Cowboys with a 3-for-5, five-RBI day at the plate that included two home runs and a triple.

Robbie Weinhardt earned his second win in the series in relief to improve to 3-0 on the season. The senior right hander did not allow a hit over three scoreless innings and struck out three.

Jordy Mercer became OSU’s all-time saves leader as he worked the final two innings for the 15th save of his career. It was Mercer’s seventh save of the season.

OSU’s comeback began in the top of the sixth. Trailing 8-2, Mercer and Matt Hague led off the inning with back-to-back singles, and Ridling followed with a home run over the 20-foot wall in center field. The homer was Ridling’s ninth of the season and made the score 8-5.

Ridling blasted his second homer of the game in the eighth, a solo shot to left to pull the Cowboys to within two and jump start the decisive rally.

Following Ridling’s shot, Neil Medchill doubled, and Luis Flores reached on an error. Tom Belza then stepped to the plate and delivered a two-RBI triple to right field. Belza would also score the go-ahead run on the play on an error by UT catcher Cameron Rupp.

The Cowboys final run in the eighth came on an RBI single by Donnie Webb that gave OSU a 10-8 lead.

OSU added three insurance runs in the ninth, getting an RBI triple from Ridling, a sacrifice fly from Davis Duren and a solo home run from Flores to go up 13-8.

Texas managed two runs in the ninth, but it was not enough as OSU claimed its first Big 12 series sweep of the season.

Chance Ruffin suffered the loss for Texas to fall to 4-3 on the season. Ruffin allowed three runs on two hits after coming out of the bullpen in the eighth.

OSU took an early lead in the first inning. Webb walked to lead off the game, and after stealing second and advancing to third on a fly out, he scored on a ground ball off the bat of Hague to give the Cowboys a 1-0 lead.

Texas quickly erased its deficit in its first at bat. An RBI double by Jordan Danks tied the score, and two batters later, Kyle Russell hit his 10th home run of the season to give the Longhorns a 3-1 advantage.

The Longhorns added to their lead in the second as Preston Clark drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Michael Torres to give UT a three-run lead.

Trailing 5-1 after four innings of play, OSU got back on the scoreboard in the fifth as Belza led off the frame with a triple and scored on an RBI by Tyrone Hambly.

Again, the Longhorns answered with a three spot in the bottom of the inning, the big blow coming on Russell’s second two-run homer of the game to put UT up by an 8-2 count.

OSU starter Tyler Blandford lasted just one inning. The sophomore right hander faced seven batters and allowed four runs on two hits. He also walked two and recorded a strikeout.

The Cowboys return to Allie P. Reynolds Stadium for the first of a nine-game home stand beginning Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against Mid-America Christian.
