As a coach when the Mavericks fire him?

Definitely not if Pop is still around. If Pop leaves, they would be stupid not to go after Larry Brown IMO. Hopefully Pop won't leave for a while though.

There's too many possible HC opportunities out there, but I'm sure if he wanted to he'd be welcomed back.

Thibodeaux is who ya want as a head coach. He didn't like JVG's tactics and wanted to play Vspan more. He knew that Vspan could take his man off the dribble. He also wanted more motion and flexibility with the Rockets offense but he knows Van Gundy's defense inside and out. my .02's this guy is the best coach available.

Currently the assistant coach of the Celtics and credited with their defense and some of their offensive sets. The dude is ready to be a head coach.

AJ seemed to do pretty well when he was preaching defense. We all knew the Mavs gig was going to go to shit for him.

I'd bring him in in a new york minute.

Hes a good defensive coach, and hes got some wrinkles in the offense.

his problem is his owner is a meddling idiot, and he doesn't have a solid personnel around him.

Yep, AJ's a defensive genius. What'd Paul have tonight? 32 and 17?

Whos he got to defend him?

Thats his fault his owner went over his back and traded the one guy who could keep up with Paul?

That was mostly tongue in cheek. AJ is overrated as a coach. He had the horses to defend Wade, but spent the entire Finals bitching about the officiating.

It's great that AJ hit a jumper a couple years back to win us our first ring, but people need to get over him.

Avery was outcoached in last years playoffs.
He can't be blamed for the Mavs failures, but he has a part in it. Mavs were playing out of their minds in 06 but now are exposed, as is Avery.

His team had a bad match up and Dirk was hobbled.
So tell me how thats his fault again?

He can't go out and make Josh Howard not choke, nor heal Nowitzki's foot.

So he couldn't draw up ANY plays to score against Nellie's zone?
Why'd he change his lineup in the first game?

Just saying that he deserves some of the blame for the Mavs failures. Who knows, maybe a change of scenery will do him good, after all he always tried to model the Mavs after the Spurs.

He changed it trying to matchup to Golden State.

It was a bad move, only in that he didn't have Brandon bass yet.

had they had Bass last year they win that series.

You'd think AJ would have learned what not to do from Pop the previous year: You don't make adjustments for lesser teams, you make them adjust to you.

By the way, time for AJ to adjust to the Hornets.

Fuck No. He'd eventually be a team cancer just like he became during his waning years with the Spurs.

Besides, Cuban is not going to fire him anyway. AJ has too many years left on his current contract. Cuban isn't about to pay a coach a salary to sit on the sidelines or worse yet, go to a rival team.

When was this that Avery was a team cancer?

Avery as assistant coach wouldnt be so bad. He could probably give Parker a few pointers as a former veteran Spurs PG

I think we should welcome Avery back as a much-loved son who ran with the wrong crowd (mavericks), made some mistakes, and now wants to come home and be a humble servant.

He could learn how to coach under Pop and as an assistant he could provide something that the Spurs could use hopefully.

If he can't help out with the coaching, he could carry some bags or something.

Why fuck AJ?.. he is one of my heroes!.. how dare you use his name in vain!!! ..I hope you die of cancer after being ran over by a bull dozer driven by a monkey with a boner, beaten up by downy midgets and pooed on by barbra streisand after getting licked by a cute and fuzzy little kitten!

Brutalis

He could be a mascot as earlier stated, in some kind of koala bear outfit with the whole midget dominance slash weird voice complex.

replacing pop would be equivilant to etting a whiny suns fan be president

Im assuming the idea here is to hire Avery as Pop's assistant, and not replacing Pop with him.

I dont know. Avery as an assistant would probably work out ok. Pop knows what he wants and when he wants it, and any little Averyisms that plague Dallas probably wouldn't pop up with Pop in charge. But I doubt Avery would take an assistant's position 2 years removed from a coach of the year award.
