Texas sophomore point guard D.J. Augustin will declare for the NBA draft and forgo his final two seasons of eligibility, the university announced Wednesday.
Augustin won't sign with an agent -- yet. But that's only as a precautionary move to make sure he doesn't get injured before the June 16 withdrawal deadline before the June 26 draft. The deadline to declare for the draft is Sunday.
Texas' staff isn't expecting him to return.
Augustin was a consensus first-team all-American and an academic all-American. He was second in the Big 12 in assists at 5.8 a game and averaged 19.9 points a game for the Longhorns, who lost to Memphis in the elite eight.
Augustin is projected as a lottery pick in the NBA draft.

No surprise seeing DJ go pro, although I wish he would stay another year or two. I wish him the best, and thank him for 2 great years at UT.
What the hell Abrams?

UT has just gone from a #1 or #2 ranked team in the country for 2008-2009 to probably not even in the top 25 with those decisions.

Nah...
Abrams will be back. I think he just wants to get as many workouts in front of the scouts as possible and try and raise his profile (of course, learning the PG position wouldn't hurt).
They've got a couple of kids coming in next year that will either start or see significant court time.
Now if Damion James decides to go pro as well, they will be at the back end of the top 25.

If both go.......they wont be in the top 25. If Abrams stays......they will be at the bottom of the top 25. That just shows you how good Augustine is as a player and how much better he makes his teammates.

I'm hoping Augustin measures 5-10 and such causes him to slip to the Suns at #15!

I think Texas will be just fine next year. They only graduated one senior this year who barely played, so the experience will be there. However, the loss of Augustin is a huge hit to this team.
Abrams is declaring, but isn't hiring an agent, so I expect him to be back. They went from a top 5 team to a 16-20 team.

dogus balbay will have to serve an 11 game suspension if he is to begin his freshman year, or a 1 game suspension if he begins his soph year, i think its his choice
texas hasnt had a pg start his jr year since i think ivan wagner
if abrams declares he makes pj tucker look like mel kiper

With DJ leaving, if I'm Rick Barnes, I take the shirt off to get rid of the 10 games, leaving him with a one game suspension to start next year. They won't have the luxury of easing a new pg into the lineup....he has got to be on the court from day 1.
Abrams will be back..
If that happens and the mensa from Beaumont J'Covan Brown qualifies to get into school and the kid from Indiana transfers in, Texas will be A-OK next season.

Can't say I blame him, just wish we could have a time where a big time player doesn't go pro-kind of like Florida had with Brewster, Noah coming back to that team.
I can only wish DJ the best, he did a hell of a job as PG for the Horns and I look forward to seeing yet another Longhorn in the NBA.
Abrams will be back next year, his dad (who calls all the shots for him) wanted him to get evaluated by the NBA, him declaring is a way to do this as mentioned above. He'll be back this upcoming season.
As for PG, Balbay will step in and most likely share PG duties with Abrams and J'Covan. I still think we're a legitimate top 15 team heading into next season.

I think tlong secretly jacks off to texas burnt orange. He realizes he's always completely wrong about every sports prediction he's ever made, so he constantly spouts anti-ut propaganda to ensure pro-UT outcomes. Let us not forget thy ginger's Rose Bowl prediction.

Is it safe to say Damion James will be back. He only has what 8 hours to declare? I think AJ will be back. 50/50 on DJ. He took a long time to declare for a reason.
