STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State tied its longest winning streak of the season with a 5-3 victory over Wichita State in front of a capacity crowd Wednesday night at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

The win was the sixth in a row for the 13th-ranked Cowboys, who improved to 29-11. OSU also won six-straight games to open the season.

OSU’s victory over the No. 7 Shockers (31-8) also marked its eighth win over a Top 10-ranked opponent this season, and the Cowboys improved to 17-2 at home.

Jordy Mercer led the Cowboys with a 3-for-4, three-RBI night, while Matt Hague and Tom Belza were also 3-for-4.

Brett Davis picked up the win on the mound with three innings in relief to improve to 2-0 on the season. The junior left hander allowed just one run on one hit and struck out three.

Senior Robbie Weinhardt did not allow a hit or a run over the final two innings to earn his second save. The right hander struck out four of the seven batters he faced.

The Shockers took a quick lead in the contest as leadoff hitter Andy Dirks homered off Matt Gardner in the top of the first.

But OSU took the lead with a pair of runs in the third. Davis Duren doubled, and two batters later, Mercer collected a double of his own to tie the score. Hague then brought home Mercer with a single to put the Cowboys up 2-1.

The score remained 2-1 for more than an hour as, after the third inning was completed, the game was delayed 1:19 due to rain.

After play resumed, WSU knotted the score when Dusty Coleman scored from third on a wild pitch.

The visitors took a 3-2 lead in the seventh on Dirks’ second homer of the game, but the lead was short lived as OSU used a long ball of its own in the bottom of the seventh to regain the lead for good.

Duren led off the frame with a bunt single, and two batters later, Mercer smashed a two-run home run over the left-centerfield wall. The blast was Mercer’s ninth of the season and gave the Cowboys a 4-3 lead.

The final run of the night came in the eighth on a solo home run by Donnie Webb, his second of the season.

OSU returns to action Friday when it hosts Kansas at Reynolds Stadium. Friday’s opener is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start.
