Looking at the final statistics for their three playoff games against the Houston Rockets, there has been one thing the Utah Jazz have done well.
Their bench production.
It's unfortunate that on Thursday night at EnergySolutions Arena, it wasn't enough - for the first time.
This time, it wasn't enough for the Jazz to get a 3-0 series lead over the Rockets, as Utah lost 94-92 in a nail-biter that took away from another stellar night from their reserves.
The Jazz finished with 20 bench points, compared with the Rockets' 17.
At the same time, it was a significant drop in bench production. The Jazz had 28 bench points in Game 1, which was followed by 26 in Game 2. On Thursday night, they outscored the Rockets in that department once again to have a 74-49 advantage in the series. And it would have been nice if the Jazz had gotten the win, considering the kind of night reserves like Matt Harpring, Kyle Korver and Ronnie Price produced.
But Harpring was the only bench player to finish in double figures. He had 10 points - on 4-for-6 shooting - to go along with his four rebounds. Harpring had a number of brilliant moments toward the end of the second half, and they all happened in a span of one minute. With 32.5 seconds left in the second quarter, Harpring nailed a three-pointer that cut the Rockets lead to 44-43 after the Jazz were behind by as many as eight points in the first 24 minutes. Harpring went on to add another point with a free throw in the final seconds.
Price also had a couple of shining moments. His moments all took place in the third quarter, when he had four points in two minutes of action.
Korver ended his night with five points, with one of them from beyond the arc.
The Jazz bench also went 4-for-8 from the free throw line, as Utah finished the night shooting a little over 60 percentage as a team at the foul line.
The Rockets had two bench players who had significant roles. Bobby Jackson finished with eight points, while teammate Carl Landry had seven.

They were at home.

I've been trying to avoid talking about this game, but we didn't lose becuase of the bench. We lost because Sloan was too fucking stupid to call a timeout down by one with 15 seconds to go. And then he was too fucking stupid to call a time out when we were down by one with 7 seconds to go and Korver was trapped in the corner with the ball.
