Just curious as to how people here would feel having D'Antoni around again if he is free. Personally I feel he would be welcome as a scout or coordinator.

Dantoni would be and has been a great assistant coach. Some of you might laugh at that but I loved him when he was on Frank Johnsons staff. Although Frank Johnson could make anyone look like a genius, I really do think Dantoni is better suited for that role.

Let's not get full of ourselves and assume he's going to get fired or that someone else wouldn't give him a shot, or that he'd want to take a scout role. I've always said he's fairly clueless, but in reality most of the Coaches in the league aren't that bright either.

I like to have him to throw out some new offense schemes. Leave the D to Pop.

I'd love to have him as an assistant coach. He'd definitely help boost the offense. It would be Pop, Bud, Don, then D'Antoni though :lol.

And this guy got Coach of the Year?

I would think he will be the first one Pop calls, if he has an opening for a "Whiny Bitch".

Or maybe if the Spurs are having trouble getting their opponents motivated, Pop can hire D'Antoni to come say stupid shit.

Or maybe D'Antoni can come show Pop how to make the right adjustments, if the league ever outlaws playing defense.

Other than that, I'm pretty sure he won't be making any stops here. I just don't think Pop would have any patience with a guy who whines and makes excuses.

He's a bad fit attitude wise. Pop will NOT allow someone to comfort the players and tell them everything is alright and those big bad refs or big bad <insert team> just TOOK that game away. He allows his players to be victims and that's a disease we need no part of.

Not possible. He's perceived very favorably around the league. Some time will snap him up very quickly.

Considering after game 3 you had D'Antoni saying the offense couldn't get it done and you have the GM (Kerr) saying t was really the defense and has been for the entire series, there's obviously some disconnect there...

I agree with Kerr on that one. 99 points against the Spurs should be enough to win. However you have to get stops. Is ludicrous to give Parker 41 points and 12 assists.

What the hell in the world makes you think he can identify talent or coordinate a damn thing? He traded first-rounder after first-rounder because he didn't want to have to develop young players and his most notable signing was his hand-picked selection of Marcus Banks. As for coordinating, his offense is predicated upon opportunity given them by mistakes made by the opposing team. There's nothing more to it than that. He stands on the side and throws "Ra-Ra" rants in the Suns directions, never taking the time to coordinate a real play.

Come on, everyone knows those picks were traded because Sarver didn't want to pay the lux tax. That's not Mike's fault.

Actually D'Antoni I think is a pretty damn good scout and talent finder.
He found Ginobili IIRC...

Mike has at least two more head coaching gigs before he's demoted to asst. coach status.

Come on, everyone knows those picks were traded because Sarver didn't want to pay the lux tax. That's not Mike's fault.

That's only half the story. D'Antoni is on record as saying he prefers not to have young players on the roster because he prefers to play veterans. Why? Young players would force him to coach.

Fact is, D'Antoni was GM of the team when the Suns traded picks that could have net them capable backup PGs in Rondo, Marcus Williams and Jordan Farmar.

Plus, you're argument makes zero sense once put into proper context, as the Suns went out with this saved 1.5-to-2.5 million and spent twice that per year on Marcus Banks.

I really wish people from other teams would stop correcting me based upon opinion and deduction. I mean no offense, but come on... I fuckin' live the Suns. It's not a hobby. I follow them - and every move they make - about as closely as anyone follows anything.

I'm not saying I'm always right, but there are quotes floating around from stories that backup my claims. D'Antoni is incapable of developing young players. So... instead of drafting them, he trades them for future picks.

If you followed Phoenix basketball, you'd know that any good that's come from Barbosa came from the coaching of Mike's brother, Dan D'Antoni. Mike was ready to trade him for anything he could get. Dan recognized the talent for his brother's system and worked with Barbosa all offseason in 2005 and throughout the 2005-06 season. Diaw and Amare are products of now Grizzlies head coach Marc Iavaroni. He was the Suns big man coach.

After those three "young" players, can you name me a draft pick or young player that was brought in that D'Antoni has worked into a rotation and developed?

You can't.

I'm telling you, he has a terrible eye for talent. The same guy that passed on those three PGs for pennies on the dollar for what he signed Banks to, also signed Piatkowski out of retirement for the veterans minimum (something like 3.5+ million for two years) and then never played him.

He's a terrible, terrible GM and I just can't see him being any kind of worthwile scout.

But hey, you know what? I've had time to think, and if you'd like to take D'Antoni off our hands, then I'm sure his skills would serve you well. Really, I'm just in a foul mood. D'Antoni would revolutionize your team! I'm sure there are few in the NBA who can do what this man can do.

Note, "in the NBA" ...

Yeah, there are plenty of teams that would welcome his go go style. Believe it or not, there are a large number of teams without championship aspirations. They just want to put some fannies in the seats and make Benjamins by not having too high of a payroll. Heisley of Memphis pretty much came out and said as much last off season. Of course, the Gasol giveaway may have tipped that off had he said nothing.

why? not that he hasn't developed a good offense in PHX. but they are predicated on their running game. Pop's not going to change the overall philosophy here because of an assistant.

plus, i wouldn't want anybody on the coaching staff who has that much of an external locus of control.
