Shaq’s losing streak hits seven

By Chris Perkins

Shaquille O’Neal hasn’t won a playoff game since Game 6 of the 2006 NBA Finals, a seven-game postseason losing streak. Hard to believe.

But that’s testament to Shaq being effective, but no longer dominant. He couldn’t help the Heat avoid a first-round sweep to Chicago last season, and he’s doing no better helping Phoenix avoid a first-round sweep to San Antonio this year.

Be clear about this: it’s not Shaq’s fault the Suns are down 3-0. In fact, after the trading deadline Spurs guard Tony Parker, who has carved up the Suns’ defense, noted his two toughest defenders are now gone from the Western Conference — Phoenix forward Shawn Marion, sent to Miami, and Dallas guard Devin Harris, shipped to New Jersey.

Still, the Spurs are the entire reason Phoenix traded to acquire Shaq. And he hasn’t been a difference-maker.

It’s an ugly world for Phoenix fans today. They’re on the brink of a first-round sweep, and looking at two more years of Shaq at $20 million per.

It bears repeating: Nice job, Micky Arison and Pat Riley. Very nice job.
