...the greatest meltdown in the history of sports.

On April 29, 1983, the Cubs lost to the Dodgers 4-3 on a wild pitch by Lee Smith. Fans threw garbage at Keith Moreland and Larry Bowa after the game. Elia, the Cubs manager at the time, in his press conference after the game, went off on Cub fans for their fair weather support of the team in a 4+ minute expletive filled tirade that is the best of all-time.

A reporter secretly taped it.

I heard that again this morning on the radio -- I remember when it happened, but didn't really have any idea why it was such a big deal, other than all of the f-bombs that Elia dropped. My favorite part is where he says something like 85% of the world works and the other 15% comes to Wrigley Field every day to watch the Cubs.
