Bruce Bowen worked his ass off to become a starter on the most winning team in the NBA in the last decade. And he did it by playing defense. For years, he has drawn the task of defending the best player on the opposing team, night after night, and he's done it better than anyone in the league. To reduce that to the point of saying that "His job is to get you so pissed off at thim that you lose your cool and got tossed" is both unfair and ignorant.

Manu flops. No more than a lot of other players. Even so, it takes a fair amount of basketball savvy to anticipate and put yourself into a position where it will be effective. And it looks really similar to getting into position to draw a charge. But people have started screaming "flop" every time he wobbles on the floor, which is bullshit. If you really used to be a Spurs fan (shame on you), you know that he has a nickname around here - "El Contusion". For every picture you can show of him flopping, I can show you one of bruises, black eyes, bloody noses, etc. The guy only knows two speeds: Stop and GO. He plays his ass off, and he takes a lot of abuse. A lot of the time, he falls down because someone has knocked the shit out of him.

The people who talk that shit about Bruce and Manu are usually looking for an excuse for why their team lost. And those comments are often followed by discussions of David Stern conspiracies, etc. Don't go there. You've got a good team. I love reading the pre-series complaints/concerns of Hornets fans.

It will be very interesting to see how the relatively inexperienced Hornets and their fans deal with the tried and tested Spurs. It's not as if booing Bruce Bowen or chanting things at Manu Ginobili will change their games. And stop already with the "already knocked off an experienced team" posturing: for all of the playoff games that the Mavericks have seen over the years, they've rarely passed the tests that the playoffs pose.

I'm not saying experience will win out in Round 2; I am saying that the notion that the Hornets might somehow be able to intimidate the Spurs is nonsensical.

Im well aware that Man flops alot but doesnt do it every play. He can draw contact with the best of them. Like Barkley said he's the white(i know hes not) Allen Iverson in that aspect. They have players of his build that dont flop as often though however. He is somewhat durable he does have an ironmans attitude to the game. But I dont know if he would hurt himself as much if he didnt try to get contact like that. I'd love to see Duncan to get in foul trouble. Chandler and West are not floppers however.

You don't get as far as Bruce Bowen has gotten by just being a dirty player. He's chippy, undoubtedly, but he's also a premier perimeter defender and much of the talk of Bowen's chippiness around the league emanates from the fact that perimeter guys don't like being bodied up and harassed the way that Bowen does it -- and the way he does it without fouling. If he can bury the corner 3 in this series, he'll break your heart, too.

Opposing fans don't realize how much contact Ginobili authentically draws and how officials have stopped calling legitimate contact in certain situations because it's Ginobili. With all of the negative things that opposing fans think of him, he's the epitome of a guy who you'd absolutely love if he was on your team. Nothing fazes Ginobili -- no situation is too big and no player is too menacing to stop him from doing what he does. He's aggravating to opposing fans, I'm sure, because he's also one of those guys who will just find a way to beat you. If he's not scoring, he's playing defense; if he's not getting to the rim, he's draining 3's. Fans around the league hate the guy, but he's legitimately among the 20 or so best players in this league right now, even if that's not a fact that's pervasively known. And he tends to be at his best come playoff time.

If you wanna talk about the Bench yes we have had problems with our bench during the year. I know that the Spurs have Udoka, a good under rated player, the 3 point specialist in Barry and Horry, a servicable back up pg in Vaughn, and a great but slow defender in Thomas.

On our side we have Bonzi Wells, im more than sure you guys already know him. Jannero Pargo who can lite it up. Armstrong who......lets just say hes good at fouling and rebounding. And Julian Wright extremely athletic, quick hands and can jump out of the house.

Pop is a great coach. He got the best of Byron in the Finals years ago. But this is a different team. He has a much better relationship with Paul then he does with Kidd. Dont sleep on Byron

Let me ask you a question:

You're a smart basketball player, and you know your opponent's tendencies. You slide over and get in perfect position to draw a charge, as your opponent flies toward you at full speed. Should you:
A. Stand there and resist the impact with all your might, take the extra punishment, and risk injury to you or the other player. Or,
B. Take the impact of the charge, but add a little body movement just to make sure you get the whistle you deserve
C. As the impact occurs, roll with it like a stunt man, knowing that there was still enough contact to get the charge call

If you chose B or C, does that make you a flopper? Sometimes a sales job is necessary to get a call that you deserve.

Manu draws a LOT of legitimate charge calls, and he pays the price for it physically. As you watch the series, just be fair-minded enough not to fall into the trap of buying into any urban myth. Let me ask you a question:

You're a smart basketball player, and you know your opponent's tendencies. You slide over and get in perfect position to draw a charge, as your opponent flies toward you at full speed. Should you:
A. Stand there and resist the impact with all your might, take the extra punishment, and risk injury to you or the other player. Or,
B. Take the impact of the charge, but add a little body movement just to make sure you get the whistle you deserve
C. As the impact occurs, roll with it like a stunt man, knowing that there was still enough contact to get the charge call

If you chose B or C, does that make you a flopper? Sometimes a sales job is necessary to get a call that you deserve.

Manu draws a LOT of legitimate charge calls, and he pays the price for it physically. As you watch the series, just be fair-minded enough not to fall into the trap of buying into any urban myth. LOL... fair enough. If that happens, it probably won't be an accident. If Manu is going to fake one, it's going to be at a time when it could affect the momentum of the game. The opposing players really need to know where they are on the court in crunch time.

I remember one of the Lakers vets setting up Sam Cassell with a late 4th quarter flop, during his rookie season. Cassell stood and stared like he didn't understand what had happened to him. That play made the difference, and the Lakers won. The next game, Cassell did exactly the same thing to the Laker player from the previous game. He got up off the floor with a big grin, looking like "I learn quick, huh?" It was one of my favorite moments from the playoffs that year.

Trust me, the Hornets are very good. Last years' playoff prediction threads were funny. I was about the only person that thought they'd make the playoffs at all on this forum. And my claiming they'd make at least the 5th seed was considered blasphemy. But they're solid. The question with the Hornets was always, "will their fans support them when they leave Oklahoma." The winning was never in doubt. It seems that a poor season for the Saints and the awakening of Chris Paul can temper even the most fickle of fans however.

Um We In no way play like the Suns. If theres any style we compare too, it would be the Spurs but still there not that much alike. I'm here from HR and yeah, it's a tight ship sometimes and clean, but you wouldn't know clean if you're from say, Laredo. It's been that way since the beginning though. Some of you mentioned trying to steal the Saints and while what the New Orleans did to get the Hornets from Charlotte was at least ethical, we dealt with many sour Charlotte fans like I'm sure yall dealt sour Saints fans. Since then, HR's well run, but it's not for everyone's taste.

I've liked what I've seen so far here. Yall have a good sense of humor; in registration I was asked if I'm human and I had to think a minute about it.

Fuck you and the whores you rode in on. New Orleans hadn't been clean for over a century before Katrina turned it into a missing tooth in the smile of the Gulf Coast. And there had been serious talk about bringing the Aints to San Antonio for more than a decade before the levee broke. That wasn't because anyone was trying to steal the team. The owner and the players wanted to escape.

A lot of the Hornets fans seem to be an example of what happens when trolls are allowed to inbreed. Isn't there any copper pipe you should be looting or something?
