View Full Version : If Duncan had not hit the 3...

If Duncan had not hit the 3 in Game 1....the Suns might not be discussing Mike D'Antoni's fate.

I heard this stated in 2 different ways today, once by Dan Patrick on his radio show while I was out on the road today and once on ESPN TV later on.

Given the Spurs have lost Playoff Game 1 in three of it's Championship runs, I would have to say that there is no way you can draw any conclusions, or even strong "IF" statements based on Game 1 of the NBA Playoffs.

Agree or disagree?

of course it does. every event in the universe requires a witness - even if that witness is a bear shitting in said forest. otherwise, why do it?

If Duncan misses that 3, Spurs win in 6 instead of 5.

anyways.
if duncan hadn't hit the three, we would have won in six, as someone said earlier.
if he hadn't made it, we wouldn't be as well rested as we are now.

BUT HE DID MAKE IT.

It's irrelevant at this point. The Suns wouldn't have made it past the Spurs anyway. And even if they did, they are still not championship material.

It probably would have been damaged anyway when Hurricane Hugo came by a few days later. Damn, that was an unlucky week for St. Croix.

If they lost game 1, we would still win in 5. Suns wouldn't win game 4 because at that point they would be down 1-2 instead of 0-3 so they wouldn't play with as much urgency and then Spurs close it out in game 5 on their own court.

Dave McNulla
05-03-2008, 07:35 AM
it's irrelevant, just like saying what if manu hadn't fouled dirk or what if fisher had missed that shot.

spurs gave themselves a chance to win. that's all that matters.

btw, when people assume that the suns would have won if stoudemire and diaw had played forget the level of energy that the suspensions gave the suns team and crowd. take away the suspension, you take away a lot of that energy.

I remember how lame it was when Spurs fans resorted to excuses like "What if Derek Anderson wasn't hurt" after getting steamrolled by the Lakers.

Now the national media is doing it for a never-was team that lost 4-1.

It's pretty nice to see the Spurs make so many people cry.

actually, no event in the universe requires a witness, otherwise there would be no new discoveries since, having never been witnessed before, they couldn't be around.

What if Derek Anderson HAD resigned with us?
What if David Robinson HAD exercised his original contract with us?
What if Tim HAD left for Orlando?

A bunch of gee-whiz questions, I know. Events in the universe can go an infinite number of ways. It makes me even more thankful that the good Lord saw fit to give us 4-time, going on 5-time, champions.

Don Quixote
05-03-2008, 08:47 PM
Yeah, really.

And Suns fans act like Duncan's 3 was a big fluke or something. We admit that shooting 3's is not his strength, but he's been draining 20-footers his entire career. So, for him to step back a few feet, set his feet, and nail a 3 with no one in front of him -- when everybody knows Tim is clutch -- is not exactly a lucky shot. I wasn't surprised at all that it went in.
