Planked mahi-mahi crusted with the following:

Dried Valencia orange peel
Cardamom
Dill weed
Tarragon
Grated Piloncillo
Zested lime
Dried chives

Also have some sauteed bok choy, green onions, white onions and scallions in olive oil.

Gonna pair it with some Little Penguin shiraz and Brian Burn's "Heavy Weather".

Tasty fish...

Porn is right. I get excited just thinking about food like that.

For instance, I'd go gay for some chargrilled oysters from Arnault's or Acme Oyster House in the French Quarter.

I love food porn!!

Shiraz sounds a little heavy for mahi mahi, how did that pair? I think a rose would have been really good with it, too :toast

I have a tilapia recipe I use that always comes out amazing - if you feel like playing with your knives for a while, it's fun - lots of chopping

1 inch fresh ginger root, grated
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup fresh finely chopped scallions (green part only)
1 cup chopped cilantro
2 chiles of your choice, chopped (I like serranos)
2 Tbsp neutral oil, like grapeseed
Dash toasted sesame oil
Dash soy sauce
Dash fish sauce
4 tsp maple syrup
salt and pepper

Mix together all of the ingredients above and use as a topping for 4 4oz tilapia fillets. Bake the fillets in parchment paper in a 400 degree oven for about 25 minutes. It comes out super moist and really fresh tasting. I like putting it with beer, but it would also go with a viognier nicely I think (might have to try that tomorrow!).

I still have a few St Arnold's Divine Reserve #5s, think I might have to open one now that I'm in foodie-mode.

I hate oysters, but love The Pearl in New Orleans. They've got fantastic neon.

If I lived there, I could probably survive on the gumbo yaya from Mr. B's. That, and the occasional burger from the Clover Grill would get me through life.

Oh! And beignets. I heart Cafe du Monde.

Don't have any real food in the house tonight. My porn was cornuts and some excellent amaretto sours.

I'm not a raw oyster connoisseur either, but chargrilled oysters are a different animal altogether. I would go gay for some. Not bi, not "experimenting," but fully gay.

Gumbo is always good, but it's invariably overpriced here. You're better off making it yourself. I made some the other night -- it had shrimp, a little crawfish, and some alligator hot sausage. And okra. It was good. Come to think of it, I probably doomed the Spurs by partaking of it on game day.

The best poboy in town is, in my opinion, Mulate's by the infamous Convention Center. I get it with grilled crawfish. The best catfish is Middendorf's, near Manchac, with Acme's a close second. The best overall is Ralph & Caccoo's in the Quarter, but Arnault's is also fabulous. And I like the crawfish pies at We Never Close in the East.

And when family's in town, of course we take them to Cafe du Monde in the Quarter. When it's just us, we go to the one in Metairie. Parking's easier there. But du Monde is not the only place to get great beignets in N.O.

I'm undecided over who has the best muffaletta. Brocato's near City Park perhaps?

Cafe Napoleon on... can't remember which street, but it's in the quarter. Royal, maybe?

My wife went the other week to Cafe Napoleon with my grandmother. They had crepes -- one stuffed with seafood, and the other with ham and cheese. Fabulous, I think they both gained some weight by eating those. And I enjoyed the leftovers.

Haven't tried the muffaletta, though.
