Pretty funny.

Popovich unwilling to disclose defensive plans for West

After his team's shootaround practice, San Antonio Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich declined to say specifically how they plan to defend Hornets forward David West for tonight's Game 2 at the New Orleans Arena.

In Game 1, West scored a playoff career-high 30 points to lead the Hornets to a 101-82 victory.

"We're probably going to use four or five things you never seen before in basketball,'' Popovich said. We're going to spend the afternoon inventing the light bulb.''

The Spurs are likely to be more physical against West to force him to take more difficult shots. But backup guard Manu Ginobili said if he is assigned to guard him, which is not likely, West would still score 30.

In the Hornets' two regular-season victories against the Spurs, West scored 32 and 29 points, respectively. West scored 17 points in the second half during Game 1, and the Hornets made 54.5 percent of their shots after halftime to outscore the Spurs 56-33.

"We want to take the same approach to come out and be aggressive,'' West said. "This is the biggest game of the series.''

I'm going to steal a comment from mb504 at the hornetsreport message board because it made me laugh:

Expect to see Bruce Bowen sitting on Duncan's shoulders. Or maybe Kurt Thomas will roll around in cow manure before the game. Or Manu Ginobili pulling West's pants down every 30 seconds.

I'd have to agree with West, Hornets win this one and there is huge pressure on us to win at home and it really puts us in a hole. We win this one and the Hornets then suddenly need one in San Antonio and may start to doubt themselves.

The Hornets are going to see a completely different Spurs team this time around.

If nothing works, we can always have Bowen slide his foot under West while he's taking a jump shot...

(Now I'm just waiting for the NO trolls to get real mad)

Shocking.

How about the question Pop got from some new orleans media guy after game 1. "So pop, what did you think about the crowd?"

WTF?

I'm disappointed we didn't see the Bruce Bowen sitting on Duncan's shoulders defense.
