Impossible task, of course, but since it's more fun than my French homework...

I've always had a soft spot for:
Norwegian Wood (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaNQjhXhfVs)
Only A Northern Song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjAVqK2nqmI)
Across The Universe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbirjVeI_Pk&feature=related)

Come Together (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJqNxKdgyqM)
I'm Only Sleeping (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bTlZDZOj-8)

Within You Without You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6kfPnNMGKA)

Great song. I've always felt that Harrison should be placed on the same level as
Lennon/McCartney in terms of songwriting abilities. He's just as good, if not better.

He's second to Lennon on my list, and both are miles ahead of McCartney.

How could I forget I am the Walrus..

Has anyone one heard the Jim Carrey version.. I think on a tribute album George Martin put out?

Jim Carrey is the last person I would want to hear sing a Beatles song :lol

You've Got to Hide Your Love Away (http://youtube.com/watch?v=UvtBp-VL7X8)
It's Only Love (http://youtube.com/watch?v=hRFNhLEKNRE)
Eleanor Rigby (http://youtube.com/watch?v=boc7rnhkLAk)
I Need You (http://youtube.com/watch?v=hWyKlXpstzo)
In My Life (http://youtube.com/watch?v=qQzlIKen2aw)
We Can Work It Out (http://youtube.com/watch?v=8ij6nBQfQoo)
While My Guitar Gently Weeps (http://youtube.com/watch?v=T7qpfGVUd8c)

It's hard to narrow my favorites down, but I guess if I could only pick a few, these would be it. "Something" is one of my all time favorite love songs, along with the Moody Blues' "Nights in White Satin" (sans crazy montage stuck to the end of it - I HATE it when KMFR plays the montage), Dan Fogelberg's "The Last Nail", and Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You".

These could all be on my list, as well (two of them already are).

Although, this thread is dangerous for me. I could probably find reasons to put almost any of their songs (Lady Madonna, The Fool on the Hill, and Your Mother Should Know are all notable exceptions) on my list of favorites.

Ditto - I spent a good percentage of my childhood playing all of the Beatles albums on vinyl. I remember my Dad saying that he was always really excited when a new Beatles album came out, because it was one of the only times where you could practically guarantee that you'd like every song you heard on it. Notable exception being the Magical Mystery Tour, he hadn't even saved that one so I heard it for the first time on cassette later.

I love "Magical Mystery Tour." My mom has the double album (with book in good condition), so I grew up listening to that one. The film is fucking insane, but I liked it, too. I haven't seen it since I was a kid, though.

I prefer the earliest stuff they did, I like their "raw" sound more than the doctored up sound that money brings. But really I like it all. I don't have the patience to look for youtubes right now, but these are probably my faves:

Love Me Do

Do You Want To Know A Secret?

I Should Have Known Better

I'll Cry Instead

I'm A Loser

Help

Yesterday

Eleanor Rigby

Oh Darling

The Long and Winding Road

I prefer the Stones as well, but I can appreciate and enjoy some Beatles stuff. I don't think they are the be-all end-all of music because they influenced more pop. The Stones represented rock and roll and I think over time the Beatles image was thought to be more about rock than what it actually was. The Beatles were a great band if you are in to pop music, but I'm more of a rocker through the core so I side with the Stones- though I don't even know why they are compared to eachother.

I think they are compared only because both were British and happening at the same time. But that's about as far as it goes. They took different directions early with the Beatles being more lyric driven and the Stones just wanting to rock old rhythm and blues. That being said I think they were all just mediocre musicians at best.

Speaking of that last song, has anyone heard the Clapton/McCartney version on the George Harrison tribute album? Awesome.

I wouldn't say they were mediocre musicians. They were able to musically express themselves in a way that made them great musicians.

Now, if you are talking about them being mediocre technical wise in their respective instruments, then I may agree.

Lennon hints at it in one of the last interviews he did

I think Paul and Ringo stand up with any of the rock musicians. Not technically great -- none of us are technical musicians. None of us could read music. None of us can write it. But as pure musicians, as inspired humans to make the noise, they are as good as anybody.

Yes I was referring to each individual's skill with their respective instruments. That combined with songwriting talents, creative vocal skills and the cult of personality made them all indisputably great.

I mean I don't even get how Abby Road became a classic cover shot and this one didn't. Look at the 2 side by side and it's obvious to anyone with eyes and taste which one is better. I was thinking it probably got over looked because it was from a single and not a full LP

To say that the Beatles were mediocre musicians is to expose how much you don't know about music.

You couldn't be more wrong.
