View Full Version : If you could write a speech for Pop

This is what i came up with:

"We have a tough game ahead of us.
For those who haven`t realized yet the Hornets are for real, and they are not gonna roll over and give us the victory.

So, ¿what do we do after two straight losses for almost 20 points? Or better yet, ¿what can we do?

I spent most of the day thinking about that, and I came to the conclusion that right now we have an advantage over our opponent.

We have been here.
We have been here, not in 2003, 2005 or 2007, but in 2004 and 2006.
We have been defeated.

I want you to take a moment and remember those years.
Remember the players of the other teams jumping and hugging each other at the end of the game.
Remember the night after that last lost and how hard was to fell asleep thinking of what you could have done better.
Remember seeing the finals in tv.
Remember the frustration.

But also, remember the anger.
The hunger for another chance.
The thirst of showing what you are capable off.

We know that we can be defeated but we also know that we just can`t live with that.

Most of the people thinks this series is over, that we`re to old to keep up to the Hornets and that it`s impossible for us to bounce back from a 0 : 2.

Well, we won`t wait to the next year to take care of our business, what would be the point if they already are giving us for death.

So I want you to know that this series will not go to the younger team or the one with more rings.
It will go to the team that shows more heart.

And that is what I expect all of you to show.

This game is for you to take, so stop fooling around and f… take it."

Pretty good.
But i would go with something like

"What the fuck is wrong with you guys!!!??? We are the NBA Champions!! Are we going to let these hot-headed sons of bayou bitches take away all that we worked so hard to get?!??!

Now lets go out there and STOMP SOME HORNET ASS!!!"

or something like that.

"When nothing seems to help, I go look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before."

I'd translate it into many languages (Spanish, French, ducks, whatever) and put it up all over the lockerroom, too.

"We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. And you will once again, be fighting for our freedom--not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution...(pause) but from annihilation.

We're fighting for our right to live. To exist....and should we win the day,
...we will declare in one voice:
'WE WILL NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT!
WE WILL NOT VANISH WITHOUT A FIGHT!
We're going to live on!'
We're going to survive!'

Today we celebrate our Independence Day!!!! "

Always the best!

Or silence works. I think this team understands what is in front of them. Now we just need to win and take one game at a time.

Pop on Spurs giving it a try to win the game
"NO! Try not! Do!
"Do or Do Not. There is no try..."

Pop to Manu, about being undersized to guard Peja

Size matters not!
Look at me, judge me by my size do you?
HMM?
Hmmm... and well you should not!
for my ally is the force
and powerful ally it is.
Life creates it makes it grow
it's energy surrounds us and binds us..

Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter.
You must feel the force around you
Here, between you, me, the tree, the rock
everywhere!
Yes, even between the land and the 'ship.:lobt2:

Pop's not really creative when it comes to speeches. He just likes to rip off movies.

POP:
I don't know what to say really.
Three minutes
to the biggest battle of our professional lives
all comes down to today.
Either
we heal
as a team
or we are going to crumble.
Inch by inch
play by play
till we're finished.
We are in hell right now, gentlemen
believe me
and
we can stay here
and get the shit kicked out of us
or
we can fight our way
back into the light.
We can climb out of hell.
One inch, at a time.

Now I can't do it for you.
I'm too old.
I look around and I see these young faces
and I think
I mean
I made every wrong choice a middle age man could make.
I uh....
I pissed away all my money
believe it or not.
I chased off
anyone who has ever loved me.
And lately,
I can't even stand the face I see in the mirror.

You know when you get old in life
things get taken from you.
That's, that's part of life.
But,
you only learn that when you start losing stuff.
You find out that life is just a game of inches.
So is basketball.
Because in either game
life or football
the margin for error is so small.
I mean
one half step too late or to early
you don't quite make it.
One half second too slow or too fast
and you don't quite make the basket.
The inches we need are everywhere around us.
They are in ever break of the game
every minute, every second.

On this team, we fight for that inch
On this team, we tear ourselves, and everyone around us
to pieces for that inch.
We CLAW with our finger nails for that inch.
Cause we know
when we add up all those inches
that's going to make the fucking difference
between WINNING and LOSING
between LIVING and DYING.

I'll tell you this
in any fight
it is the guy who is willing to die
who is going to win that inch.
And I know
if I am going to have any life anymore
it is because, I am still willing to fight, and die for that inch
because that is what LIVING is.
The six inches in front of your face.

Now I can't make you do it.
You gotta look at the guy next to you.
Look into his eyes.
Now I think you are going to see a guy who will go that inch with you.
You are going to see a guy
who will sacrifice himself for this team
because he knows when it comes down to it,
you are gonna do the same thing for him.

That's a team, gentlemen
and either we heal now, as a team,
or we will die as individuals.
That's basketball guys.
That's all it is.
Now, whattaya gonna do?

"The New York Knicks failed, the New Jersey Nets failed, the Cleveland Cavaliers failed, the Phoenix Suns failed, and the Dallas Mavericks, when it came to beating an inferior team in the NBA Finals, failed. They lost four after winning the first two. When it came to beating the Lakers after going up three games to two, Peja Stojakovic and the Sacramento Kings failed. They shot free throws like hell in the last two games. When he got back-to-back chances to coach a champion, Byron Scott failed. He won two games out of eight. The Hornets beat the Mavericks in five, win the first two at home against the Spurs, flop all over the place and act the fool, and then they want us to sing God bless the Hornets…no, no, no, Not God bless the Hornets, God damn the Hornets! That's in the Bible, Timothy 21! God damn the Hornets for thinking they've won something! God damn the Hornets for as long as they think they got the Spurs beat!"

That speech is great. Very good time for American patriotism.

(of course Basketball is just a game :lol) still it's worth posting

The Speech Given somewhere in England on June 5th, 1944

"Be seated."

Men, this stuff that some sources sling around about us wanting out of this war, not wanting to fight, is a crock of bullshit. We love to fight, traditionally. All real champions love the sting and clash of battle. You are here today for three reasons. First, because you are here to defend your homes. Second, you are here for your own self-respect, because you would not want to be anywhere else. Third, you are here because you are real men and all real men like to fight! When you, here, every one of you, were kids, you all admired the champion marble player, the fastest runner, the toughest boxer, the big league ball players, and the All-American football players.

Americans love a winner. Americans will not tolerate a loser. Americans despise cowards. Americans play to win all of the time. I wouldn't give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed. That's why Americans have never lost nor will ever lose a war; for the very idea of losing is hateful to an American.

.....

That, like everything else in this Army, has a definite purpose. That purpose is alertness. Alertness must be bred into every soldier. I don't give a fuck for a man who's not always on his toes. You men are veterans or you wouldn't be here.
If you're not alert, sometime, a German son-of-an-asshole-bitch is going to sneak up behind you and beat you to death with a sockful of shit! There are four hundred neatly marked graves somewhere in Sicily, all because one man went to sleep on the job. But they are German graves, because we caught the bastard asleep before they did!

....

An Army is a team. It lives, sleeps, eats, and fights as a team. This individual heroic stuff is pure horseshit. The bilious bastards who write that kind of stuff for the Saturday Evening Post don't know any more about real fighting under fire than they know about fucking!

....

My men don't surrender, and I don't want to hear of any soldier under my command being captured unless he has been hit. Even if you are hit, you can still fight back. That's not just bullshit either. The kind of man that I want in my command is just like the lieutenant in Libya, who, with a Nazi Kraut poking a Luger against his chest, jerked off his helmet, swept the gun aside with one hand, and busted the hell out of the Kraut with his helmet. Then he jumped on the gun and went out and killed another German before they knew what the hell was coming off. And, all of that time, this man had a bullet through a lung. There was a real man!

.....
There is one great thing that you men will all be able to say after this war is over and you are home once again. You may be thankful that twenty years from now when you are sitting by the fireplace with your grandson on your knee and he asks you what you did in the great World War II, you WON'T have to cough, shift him to the other knee and say, 'Well, your Granddaddy shoveled shit in Louisiana.'

No, Sir, you can look him straight in the eye and say, 'Son, your Granddaddy rode with the Great Third Army and a Son-of-a-Goddamned-Bitch named Georgie Patton!'

That is all.

i like "bayou bitches." the alliteration of it just makes it roll off the tongue better.
