Kobe deserved the award this year.
Did anyone catch the opening to the short piece about Kobe on Staples tron? It was from the last game Lakers played at Arco this past season, the L.A. commentator said [paraphrased] "Can you believe the MVP chant after all these teams have been thru together?" The rivalry isn't dead!
I was at that game. Half the crowd were Laker fans and that's not an exaggeration. They came out of the frigging WOODWORK this year!
Just wanted to clear that up. :king

The Lakers are looking pretty smooth, they're not even thinking twice when they commit a turnover since they know they'll get the ball back most likely without the Jazz scoring. I always thought the jazz were overrated though.

I don't think the Jazz are overated, I just think they have a tough time matching up to the Lakers. And they have too many inconsistent players. Plus, Williams/Boozer in a shooting slump at the wrong time doesn't help either.
It's hard to consider a team coached by Jerry Sloan as overated.

Having Gasol on the team, even when he's not scoring efficiently still allowed Odom to move over a spot and become the 3rd scorer, plus Gasol still warrants enough attention defensively that it opens up the floor for everyone else.

The Lakers get knocked on for not being a lockdown defensive team, but they really don't need to be. Their offense is so versatile and efficient that they just need to play enough defense to win. Contrast this with SAS who has a lockdown defense and an offense that is good enough for them to win despite averaging under 100ppg. Two differing styles, both have been successful over the years.

One thing I've noticed about LA is that, unlike the Hornets, they will occasionally let go of the gas pedal. The Hornets just pound you and pound you until you can't get up. LA doesn't have that killer instinct yet, they tend to let you back into the game with shoddy defense.

Do you guys realize how difficult it is to sustain a 10pt lead for an entire game against a good team like the Jazz? The NBA is a game of runs, teams always cut into the lead and get close. But usually they expend so much energy doing that they can't close the game out. This has happened both times to UTAH.
But I agree, the Lakers should probably lose a game on purpose at some point. I don't like us being so "untested" right now.

Utah wilts in crunch time.
LA makes Utah pay for mistakes, they're not Houston :lmao

Not giving up, just pointing out that the Hornets are a better team than the Lakers. If we can get by them then we should be able to take the Lakers.
I agree with you. If you past the Hornets, you'll be able to take us out.
Oh wait...ur season ends this week. I GUESS WE'LL NEVER KNOW.

once you begin to lose in utah (yes you will lose both of em), and once your softies begin to hesitate, your shots wont be going in and your mvp kobe wont be able to save you. Jazz in 6 maybe in 7 book it.
JAZZ in 6.

Utah is not that great of a team...for the playoffs at least.

How much longer are you going to trash the Laker opponents until you admit that MAYBE the Lakers are just a really good team?
Seriously, you guys are just comical now. First Gasol was a soft, pussy-ass, playoff choker......now he's a gift from Memphis and the league is corrupt. Make up your minds.

Lakers vs Spurs in WCF, 6 games.
Lakers vs Hornets, 4-5 games.
It's all about the matchups.

No it wasn't. Before the playoffs started, on paper it would seem. I think most basketball fans who watched some of the Houston-Utah series, were like "I don't think Utah can beat Lakers"

No surprises, Jazz were a very poor 17-24 on the road, tied with Dallas and Denver, and would have been 6th home record in the EC.
Jazz have NBA best home record, so we'll see if they can go 2-2.
As Charles said, the Jazz are just playing basketball, not playing the playoffs.
Which was true about the Spurs in game1,2, at least in the 2nd halves. As Reggie said, the Spurs looked like they were not recovered from the first round.

LA fans are just like Kobe. Complaining and wanting off the bandwagon when they lose but everyone hops on and rides it when they are winning.
We should be make up a tshirt similar to the Rugby ones. These ones would say 'I root for the <insert favourite team name> and anyone who plays the Lakers; :lolBullshit - I have watched almost every single regular season & playoff Laker game since the 87-88 season - there are lots of "lifer" laker fans - most of us don't waste a lot of our time posting on forums (we have lives outside of sports, probably because there are a lot more things to do here in the winter because it is so warm) - watch the game, find something else to do (I have insomnia tonight so reading this stuff should put me to sleep).

Some crazy stats from last night.
- Last night Utah shot a season-high 101 shots, surpassing their previous season-high from Game 1. LA obviously has them at a faster pace than they want to be at.
- 7/11 from 3 for LA. Phil obviously got them off the pipe they flirted with against Denver. The 3-point shot is like crack for the Lakers. Anytime they shoot less than 20 its a good game.
- Utah had 33 more shots, 12 more offensive rebounds, 4 more assists, 3 more steals, and 5 less turnovers but still got their ass spanked. 3 3's by Deron in the last 33 seconds made it closer than it really was. Utah also outscored LA in the paint 58-40 and on second chance points 21-2.
- 57.4% from the field and 63.6% from 3. In all 6 games LA has played this season, their lowest FG% was Game 1 - 45.2%. Utah just can't hold LA.
