KFC, NBA to tip off new campaign in Tim Duncan's native U.S. Virgin Islands
San Antonio Business Journal
by W. Scott Bailey

KFC International and the NBA have teamed up on a new promotional partnership targeting 22 countries and territories in Central and South American and the Caribbean.

The Taste the Game program coincides with the 2008 NBA Playoffs.

The promotion will incorporate NBA-themed packaging for KFC's Big Box Meal in more than 450 restaurants from May 15 to June 31. The specially boxed meals will include a free NBA cell phone strap in select markets.

"Latin America and the Caribbean are vibrant basketball markets with a strong and growing NBA fan base," says Emilio Collins, vice president of international development for the NBA.

"With this promotion, KFC will bring the excitement of the 2008 NBA Playoffs and The Finals directly to those fans throughout the region," Collins adds.

At the end of the 2007-08 regular season, the NBA featured 76 international players on team rosters. Eight of those players were from Latin America and the Caribbean.

The most popular player from that region: San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan (U.S. Virgin Islands).

KFC previously served as an official partner in 2006 and 2007 of NBA Europe Live Presented by EA SPORTS -- which is the league's comprehensive tour of Europe.

The 22 countries and territories participating in the Taste the Game promotion include: Antigua, Barbados, Brazil, Costa Rica, Colombia, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guadeloupe, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Bahamas, Peru, Panama, St. Maarten, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, U.S. Virgin Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, and Puerto Rico.

Not knocking this campaign at all, but I heard that KFC Bowl is the worst thing ever created (as far as fast food goes) for the human body.

America, eatin' my lunch from a single bowl in my parents basement, where I'm livin'. Happy Birthday, I'm forty-three.

Don't want to waste those precious calories...chewin'. Jesus come move my jaw for me, help me get my sloppy food down my throat.

sorry it had to be done.

I can't tell you how funny I think it is that the NBA Playoffs are actually sponsored by KFC.

Instead of "going fishing," superstars that have been eliminated can eat a bowl and listen to some whiny emo fag music on their IPOD.
