Does anyone know if they have any sort of plaque or anything at the Academy honoring Pop? A friend of mine is attending this academy and I would love to see it if I ever visit him.

I'm sure he could find old basketball team photos with him, if nothing else.

I believe that last year Pop was honored at the Air Force Academy and had some sort of monument or plaque go up. As per his style, he was very humbled and downplayed his worthiness, but yest, he was recently honored by the Academy.

On Friday, one of the most distinguished coaches in the NBA became an official Air Force Distinguished Graduate.

San Antonio Spurs head coach and Academy alum Gregg Popovich received the AFA Distinguished Graduate Award, which honors graduates who have a significant lifetime of achievement.

Popovich says out of all his accomplishments, which is includes four NBA titles, this may top the list.

“This is probably the most meaningful of any award I've received or any sort of recognition,” said Popovich. “Just because this is coming from the AirForceAcademy and I consider this the place that really molded me from a wise guy to a half decent person.”

Popovich played basketball at the Academy for four years before spending nine years on active duty. He graduated in 1970.
