Spurs: Key Player Tony Parker, Frozen Moment, Key Stretch
By Tom Orsborn

KEY PLAYER: TONY PARKER

25 points, 8-12 shooting, 8 assists, 6 rebounds, 1 steal

Proving again that his cozy relationship with the Hornets’ Chris Paul doesn’t diminish his drive to win one bit, Tony Parker was the catalyst for the Spurs’ blowout victory with some masterful work on the offensive end in the first 24 minutes. After scoring 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting and dishing out four assists in the first period, Parker helped the Spurs take control in the second by scoring seven points on 3-of-4 shooting and notching two more assists. Amazingly, the seven-year veteran entered halftime without a turnover.

FROZEN MOMENT

Finally healthy after battling flu-like symptoms earlier in the series, Tim Duncan was his usual dominating self in the low post in Game 4. One of his best moves came in the final seconds of the first half, when he took a pass from Manu Ginobili in the lane, put his head down to back Melvin Ely off, then banked in a right-hander from 8 feet out for a 14-point Spurs lead. Ely was called for a foul, and Duncan completed the 3-point play. Duncan had a similar 3-point play later in the second half against Tyson Chandler.

KEY STRETCH

Playing with a sense of urgency usually reserved for the fourth period of a Game 7, the Spurs looked unstoppable in the first 5:27 of the second period, outscoring the Hornets 21-6. During that stretch, the Spurs hit 9 of 11 shots from the field, including back-to-back 3-point shots by Manu Ginobili and Ime Udoka to start the period. The Hornets, meanwhile, missed eight of their first 11 shots in the second to trail by 17 points after Tony Parker capped the run with an 18-foot jumper. The onslaught continued in the third period, which saw the Spurs outscore the Hornets 30-19.
