Who should demand their name back first?

FYI: This is just a silly post about a major pet peeve of mine. It drives me BONKERS that we have the Utah Jazz. Name one jazz musician who ever came out of Utah. Grrrr. Utah should be forced to give that name back to New Orleans where it belongs.

I encourage you to seek out the rare works of the Mormon Tabernacle Jazz Trio. Good stuff.

Not only that, but bee hives are a major symbol for the Latter Day Saints (Mormons). Seems like something could be worked out here. You could play it up as a big promotion, as well. Utah has never won a championship, so they could get rid of their "cursed," borrowed name.

Don't forget the now legendary Miles Davis/Brigham Young sessions for Verve.

I agree. Utah Jazz is pretty ridiculous.

So is LA Lakers. It worked well in Minneapolis because its the land of a thousand lakes. the names should have changed when they relocated.

New orleans Jazz was probably the best basketball team name ever.

And why do we call them the Boston Celtics (with a soft "c")?
It should be the Boston "Keltics". Spelled the same but pronounced with a hard "c".

I think the NBA has overall, the most apropos names of any major sport.

examples:

1. Houston Rockets

2. Orlando Magic

3. Phoenix Suns

4. Dallas Mavericks

5. Miami Heat

6. Philadelphia 76ers

7. Indy Pacers

8. Denver Nuggets

9.Portland Trailblazers

10 Seattle Supersonics

Names that are no longer apropos, but were very much so before they moved:

LA Lakers(Minneapolis)

LA Clippers(San Diego)

Utah Jazz(New Orleans)

Memphis Grizzlies(Vancouver)

Washington Wizzards (Washington Bullets ) :)

Well, that'sa whole separate issue. It also drives me a little nuts that the C's pronounce their name wrong. But then again, I attended MacArthur HS, where we referred to our team mascot as the Br-AH-ma bulls, as opposed to the Br-AY-ma bulls, which is how it's supposed to be pronounced....

yeah. Washington Bullets. DC was the murder capital of the world at the time. Hell it might still be.

I guess it may have to do with the Celtic Football club. They pronounce it "Sell-tics"

Utah is also called the Beehive State and Salt Lake City's minor league baseball team is called the Bees.

Utah and New Orleans should really just make a trade.

Inappropriate team names just piss me off, too. But none are as bad as the Utah Jazz. Utah is probably just about the most unjazzy state in the union. Neither the Hornets nor the Jazz have won anything big, so they should just swap names.

I'm pretty sure that people in SLC think that the Osmonds were Jazz greats.

I'm reminded of a line from the movie, "Baseketball".

"The Minneapolis Lakers moved to Los Angeles, where there are no lakes.[/B]

"The New Orleans Jazz moved to Utah, where they don't allow music."

:lmao

Davey Crockett has some choice words for all you San Antonians saying the Memphis Grizzlies are an inaccurate name...
