Not his best work by any means, and a story that doesn't really pay off in the end, but if you're a fan you'll like the book.

I do, however, find the questions the ending of the book left me with piques my imagination.

I've got Cryptonomicon in paperback and I just can't get into it.

I'll have a look at Infinite Jest.

Can't get into Cryptonomicon? Wow, it gripped me from the start. Keep going - if you're not into it by 150 pages, drop it, but otherwise, it's worth the effort.
