I hope you are being sarcastic. Crawford has his ego intact, he even chose to be suspended for the rest of the season rather than apologize.

Yeah, I've noticed that, too. I was nervous about the league bringing him back this season because of his "anger management" issues, but it seems we now know what those long meetings with him in the off-season were really about.

Joey has been right-on more than most refs I've seen lately...but maybe it's just because I watch him more closely now.

Why?

This just feels like a classic 7 game series. Also, Hornets are unbeatable at home and will play @ home like they did game 1 and 2.

yeah I know Spurs adjusted but for some reason I don't think we'll be shooting 60% on their court.

I really hope I'm wrong but that's highly unlikely :hat

There really hasn't been a barn burner in this series. Everything points to that tomorrow night. I expect it to be close and I expect one of our battle tested warriors to come through in the clutch.

As Ralph Lawler would say, fasten your safety belts.

I agree with the view that Joey is clearly among the best officials in the game. I don't think officiating ever determines an outcome, but I'm sure that's true with Joey. He did let his ego get away from him before the suspension, but having his opportunity to call playoff games revoked last year has seemed to make him all the more professional and proud of doing a good job. That's good for basketball.

Game 5 will be a bitch for the Spurs -- that would be true even if David Robinson, Sean Elliott, and George Gervin officiated that game.

Well, I agree that it feels like a 7-game series just because the intensity is so high, but I don't agree that the Hornets are 'unbeatable' at home. I don't think anybody's unbeatable and if anybody can beat them, it's the Spurs.

I'm also not sure the Hornets are going to play the way they did in the first two games, if for no other reason than that the Spurs seem to have their number now and the Hornets aren't as confident as they were before. Frustration has obviously set in.

I know where you're coming from, though, and I sure as hell hope you're wrong!

That and the Spurs haven't exactly set the world on fire with Joe Derosa on the floor in playoff games of late. They were 3-1 with Derosa last year, but are only 3-4 with him since 2005 and 1-2 on the road with Derosa over that stretch.

I really have a feeling that might have been a part of him being relieved from what was called "indefinite suspension." His ego/attitude had come to such a head that Stern and Assoc. had to basically say, 'let's figure this out in the offseason.'

Also, though, it came to light later that Stern had known his officials were under investigation for gambling/mob-ties during the time Joey was suspended. Joey is known for being a bit of a gambler in the off-season, so maybe they also wanted to make sure someone they may have had a doubt (or even suspicion there of) didn't ref a playoff game.

In hindsight, though, classes in anger-management had to be a part of it.

I'm surprised nobody has done an After Effects bit with Crawford's face over Adam Sandler's in that movie with Nicholson.

PS. Everyone here must know that Princess Pimp is really a Spurs fan, right? I mean, it might be fun to troll a hated team/band/director/etc. for like a day, but he's been here for a long, long time and knows the officials for the next game before I do...just come out, PP and admit you're a hard-core Spurs fan.

Crawford's fairly decent about not letting the home crowd influence him.

If it had been Salvatore, you could bank on being at least -10 from the line just by virtue of being the visitors.

The last time Crawford did a Spurs game, they went to the line 30 times. I think some of his peers hold a bigger grudge against Timmy than he does.

Salvatore will be the lead official for Game 6.

His compatriots for that game will come (I'm almost 100% sure) from the following:

Jim Clark
Ken Mauer
Greg Willard
Scott Foster
Monty McCutchen
Sean Corbin
Bill Spooner

Not to mention that he knows every call he makes will be scrutinized closely.

Update: FTs for Game 5
Team FTM FTA
Spurs 12-18
Hornets 25-33

Now, part of the disparity stems from the Hornets being more agressive in the 3rd quarter and outplaying the Spurs on the defensive end but the missed shots just fed the feeding frenzy.
