I have mixed emotions about this one me being a rockets fan. I wish they could both lose! I would cheer for utah if I knew the spurs would beat the hornets. I want to go to a game at salt lake city and cheer for spurs

Booing Fisher...yes. Cancer chants was a rumor started by a pissed off Rockets fan and it's spreading across the internet. There were no cancer chants at all and I was at both games. That's the God's honest truth.

Yes. Every single time a Utah player put a hand even slightly towards a Laker player on the wing, they were called for a foul. Every time there was minimal or even no contact on the inside when the Lakers had the ball, Utah was called for a foul. Meanwhile the entire game Boozer and Okur were getting hammered with absolutely nothing to show for it whatsoever. This was particularly bad in the 4th quarter. Go back and look at that Odom dunk that was called an and-1 for example. Then look at the amount of contact that Utah had to put up with for the next 5 posessions. Yes we missed some shots towards the end of the game, but can you blame us? We had the momentum straight stolen from us at every opportunity the refs could find to do so.

I'm sorry, but when PTI and Sportcenter (i.e. Lakers informal promotional team) take the time to open their shows by not talking about Kobe and the Lakers performance, but instead whether the Utah Jazz got fucked by the refs, something is clearly not right.

Compared to your idiot ass? You've been nothing but a insubstantive and offensive douche this entire series, even before the series started actually. I'd watch who you're calling classless and start looking at yourself asshole.

And BTW... nobody is booing Fisher any more than any other Laker and absolutely no chants about his daughter's cancer have ever occured. Ever.

To the Jazz fans complaining about game 5. How do u think you win games 3 and 4? the same way, Refs

So my guess today is the Jazz gonna win and the series will go back to LA for a Lakers win. The refs are simply not allowing any road win so far (except for one win by Det). Home teams getting call galore

I pickd the Lakers in 6 and im sticking by that in a tough game tonight.

And just to ensure myself another couple days without "Lakers are the best ever" threads.

lakers in 5

Odom won't be guarding Booz. He'll be on Okur like he always is

The Thugs could have taken the Lakers to seven games and the Lakers would still annihilate the pathetic Jazz and their bitch ass fans in 4 or 5 games.

Lakers cruise in 5. Maybe even 4

Lakers in 5

Utah will be an even easier matchup (than the nuggets)

lookin like another sweep

lakers in 5

If the Lakers are going to lose one game this series tonight would be the night. But that only happens if Kobe DOESNT go nuclear. Sadly, Kobe is going to go nuclear.

And now...

Lakers are winning game 6 I guarantee it

And for all of Gasols wonderful skills.... i think he is the softest player in the entire NBA... i mean damn :lol The dude has about 3 inches on Mehmet Okur right under the ring and gets his shot blocked at the rim.

Then a couple times he could have endured just a little bit of banging to seal off his smaller opponent for the entry catch... and hes too scared to lean back and one time the ball gets poked away from him and the other time he was stuck 12 feet from the basket...

Dude is skilled... but damn is he soft.

Gasol is soft, but combine him with Bynu and Odom and you have the best front line since Bird/Parish/Mchale

While I think Gasol/Bynum will be a deadly frontline, if you think that one is better than the Robinson/Duncan frontline from 99 (figured ya could remember that one since ya posting on a Spurs board), then you are on that dope.

And that's not even considering the frontlines with a top 5 big and a decent PF (i.e. Hakeem/Thorpe, Shaq/Grant, Shaq/Horry, Ewing/Oakley/Mason, Robinson/Rodman, Hakeem/Barkley/Willis).

DazedAndConfused

Give them all the seasons you want. Unless one of them is gonna go down as arguably the best PF in league history, and the other a top 6 or 7 center in league history, they won't come close. I am 100% Gasol will never fall in either category. Bynum still has potential but I would bet money that he won't ever be better than Robinson or Duncan.

They're going to give up 40 points in the 4th quarter and still win.

Their offense is just head and shoulders above anything in the rest of the NBA.

Their offense is great. Good passers, excellent shooters. However, they have had the benefit of playing one team that plays no defense at all (Nuggets), and another team that has no one to match up with their top two offensive options without significant doubling (Kobe or Gasol). That's why you see those shooters getting all of those wide open looks.

If SA advances they at least have people to make Kobe and Gasol work for theirs without always doubling. Duncan will also expose Gasol for the soft broad that he is (I don't know what happened to Boozer this series). I also think the NO frontline will manhandle Pau, but they also have absolutely no one for Kobe.

The Celtics and Pistons have excellent frontlines that can make Gasol work and force him to play some real defense. They also have players to make Kobe work without doubling as much. LA's best bet is to have NO advance, and the Cavs come out of the East.

The Lakers are perhaps one of the worst teams at defending the 3 to end games. What happened in the 4th is no isolated incident, this has been happening all season with this fucking team. I blame the coaching and immaturity of the Laker team. SAS would never allow that shit to happen. It's incredible how the Lakers are still able to win games with these kind of lapses, it's a testament to how incredible their offense really is.

I am really disappointed with Phil's coaching tonight. The game should have never been in jeopardy but Phil like an idiot did a wholesale swap of the 2nd unit to start the 4th and didn't put all the starters back in until about 7-8 minutes left in the 4th. Just irresponsible coaching to put scrubs in for that long when the Jazz are making their run. No other coach would pull that kind of shit in this league but Phil.

Yup, the Lakers match up well with the Pistons...I don't worry much about them. But the Celtics, that would be difficult. But the Celtics have been sucking on the road lately so perhaps they're not invincible anymore.

You think you match up well with Boston? You think Gasol has an advantage over Sheed or McDyess? You do know Sheed is a supreme defender, right? As weak as Gasol is on the boards, that's not the frontline you want him to square off against.

Odom at PF doesn't create a huge mismatch against Detroit. Their bigs are also mobile.

Gasol is definitely better than McDyess, even with Sheed.

Nope, McDyss can't keep up with either Odom or Gasol. Maxiel can but he's undersized.

Any team can beat the Jazz the way they came out tonight. The Spurs would most likely dominate this Jazz team the way they played in this series. Boozer was garbage just about the entire playoffs and blew a ton of easy layups in this game. His play alone practically gave the game to LA and they still couldn't even hold on to a 13 point lead with about 4 minutes to go. Deron Williams almost capped off one of the biggest collapses I've seen in quite awhile.

The "collapse" was entirely due to Phil's poor rotations. He does this all the time in the regular season where we'd have a nice double digit lead and he takes out the entire starting lineup and puts in the 2nd unit. This has cost us games in the regular season, didn't think he'd have to balls to do this in an elimination game.

But that's what makes Phil, Phil. Can't argue with 9 rings.

There were about 10 teams with a legit chance to win it all when the playoffs started. Now we are down to 6. Two more teams exit in a few days. Those games are going to be very nerve-wracking. I think both will go down to the wire. Whoever's left in the conference finals will be in dogfights. I like the Lakers' chances, but I am biased just as everyone else here is.

I think you have Gasol wrong, he's not an overall poor defender. He's an excellent one-on-one defender but a weak team defender. He can guard any big man very well, but he can't play help defense well. No big man ever owns Gasol, but his teammates do.

Gasol has pretty much owned the previous DPOY, Marcus Camby. He also owned Boozer pretty much through the series.

Oh I know, he's a great player, but Spurs fans talk about him like he's Kobe or something. When Kobe gets hot, he'll drop 50 on you, if Duncan gets going he'll probably get about 30 or so. I think Parker might be the bigger mismatch against the Lakers rather than Duncan. Lakers can matchup fine with Duncan. Odom scares me, when he gets going, the Lakers offense is so damn explosive. Everybody always criticizes their defense ( and they have a good point) , but I have yet to see a team consistently contain the Lakers offense since the Gasol trade.

I think the Pistons are the TOUGHER matchup ASSUMING Chauncey is healthy ...but it is foolish to ASSUME that we WILL beat NO or SA ...
Ill be honest for the sake of shutting up the Spurs fans here in SA and to have the chance to MAYBE ending the Spurs title run ...I want SA next round. BUT in my mind I know that closing out SA will be much tougher than NO ...because of the experience and the greatness of Duncan, Manu & Tony
Good luck may thebest team win ...if we cant beat the winner of that team regardless of whom then we aint gonna win the title anyways

Gasol did very well against Duncan during the season but it's the Playoffs so we shall see.

Marcus Camby?!? What kind of game does he have except that ugly looking 20 foot brick he likes to shoot? Boozer sucked just about the whole playoffs and missed a ton of looks that he should have made blindfolded. Gasol's defense is not good to say the least. I don't think the Lakers even have much of an interior defense. Paul or Parker+Ginobili will live in the paint next series. And it doesn't really matter who Gasol faces in the next round. Either West or Duncan will have their way with him.

why are you guys discussing the WCF? The outcome is decided. The Lakers are going to the finals, hasnt the ref bias proved that to you yet?

The stripes had to let King James get game 6. Im sure Stern is still trying to work out the figures between whether or not the Celtics in the Finals or if it should be the world wide marketing machine of Lebron.

Marcus Camby, a DPOY couldn't stop Gasol.

Boozer and Mehmet Okur couldn't stop Gasol.

Duncan bothers Gasol and Gasol bothers Duncan.

Kobe gets the edge on Manu,

Tony Parker gets the edge on Fisher.

Odom/Radmanovic gets the edge on Fabricio/Finley.

Lakers bench has the edge on Spurs bench.

Either West or Duncan will have their way with him.

Kobe will have his way against either team as well. So it's still gonna
be a long tough series regardless.

Don't put Camby and DPOY in the same sentence :lol Everyone and their mother knows that's a farce. Boozer and Okur have never been defensive juggernauts either...average at best. I'm not sure why you're hyping these guys up to be something they're not.

Camby being a DPOY is not a farce, he's a very good defender.

I don't think either Duncan/Fabricio or David West/Chandler will beat the hell out of Gasol.

From the comments here, it would seem people think Gasol is just some chump that will get wasted by the opposing big man, I think they'll be surprised in the next series.

The Lakers are going all the way.

I want to face the Hornets instead of SA because I think that is the easiest road to the finals for us, no need to prove anything here!

The only team that concerns me is Detroit believe it or not. The Lakers don't match up well with them and won't have homecourt if and when they meet.

But I have a feeling this is our year. And this is without Bynum and Ariza, once they are back next season the only thing that can stop them will be themselves and injuries.....it could be another dynasty in Los Angeles. :lobt:

No bad match ups? Ok Laker fan.

Good Luck 2004.:toastIn 2004 Karl Malone was almost too injured to play by the time the finals started (and didn't even play the whole series). Also that year Snaq was in "fat & out of shape" mode - Detroit ran so many high screens and pick & rolls on Snaq that he looked completely silly out there.

The Lakers in my opinion shouldn't even have been in the second round. They're just shooting their way to the WCF's, nothing impressive. No skill required. Anyone can go out and shoot some hoops.
So you are one of those idiots that Lefty was talking about in post #179:rollin

This sucks. I was rooting for the Jazz.

But shit, how good are the Lakers? They managed to close out a playoff series on the road in the toughest place to win? :wow Are they that good or were the Jazz just that overrated?

To be fair, Kirilenko was shooting 16% from three point range for the playoffs before game 6 while Deron Williams was shooting 54% from three point range for the playoffs before game 6

I don't see what the big deal about Gasol is. All he does is drive for open dunks or layups when all the attention is on Kobe. Kobe does all the work while Gasol just gets easy buckets.

Because Gasol is a fantastic passer. Has a post game. Can hit a mid-ranged jumpshot. Can shoot free throws. Can block shots. He's just good and perfect in the triangle/next to Kobe.

Without Bynum. Dynasty. Accept it.

What the fuck is your problem? Why are you shitting all over this thread with that crap? Let the Laker fans enjoy their win and take your BS elsewhere.

We can all see right through your jealously and hatred of the Lakers.

Dont take vinnie seriously. He also said Flip Saunders is better than Larry Brown and is now an elite coach, Prince is every bit as good as Bowen is on D and is a young Robert Horry in the clutch, Amir>Bynum, Pistons Bench>Lakers Bench, beating the Sixers/Magic was much more impressive than the Lakers playoff run, etc etc. He is just running his mouth to get Laker fans pissed off. Just take it with a grain of salt.

I have no idea about the origins of this battle and I'm not going to go back and look, but I will say this. The Lakers are awesome. I'm rooting for them to win a ring this year. But, besides about 3-4 of their fans, the shit on this board coming from Laker trolls has been ridiculous. I've never seen such an uneducated and entitled batch of shit in my entire life as I have seen coming from the Laker trolls. Especially that 21 Blessings guy. I don't blame anybody for trying to piss LA fans off. Most of you have been total douchebags the entire playoffs.

Thanks for the nice post. last thing I would ever do is troll a nice forum like this. There are plenty of smart basketball savvy people here to hang with, and tons of fun to be had. Doesn't matter who our favorite teams are, this place is about basketball. Trolls are just part of message board life, and since the Lakers have such a big fan base, more of them show up than from other teams.

Trolls: When your team loses, it's partially your fault!
