All we need to do is make our shots. Plain and simple.

We need to stop David West from his bullshit jump shots, and Tyson Chandler's bullshit alley oops. Good job with Peja...him being shut down is the biggest factor this series.

The last three blowout losses have made me to approach this game with a defetist attitude. Obviously, I hope they win. But I have a feeling we will lose by 20. Again. I believe we are the better team if we play up to out full potential, but it's been what, five times this year where that we haven't over there so what justifies thinking that we will monday? Each game prior to this in New Orleans I thought we'd get the win, and we didn't. I don't wont to be let down again, so I'm preparing for a bad loss, but of course hoping they get the win.

It's simple.. Spurs need to forget about those other losses in NO, go in with the "This is OUR game, we are closing these guys out tonight!!" type of attitude and just play hard nosed D and attack the rim. Spurs need to hit on all cylinders for 1 more night! We got this one! GO SPURS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:flag:

Both teams are talented, both teams are very good. So it comes down to a mental game. In game six we saw glimpses of how Paul and West can become overheated when things don't go their way. If the Spurs can get into the Hornets collective heads they can not only win game seven but blow out New Orleans.

Then it's on to yet another!:lobt2:

The famous 300 of the Battle of Thermopyle ended up being slaughtered, and the Spartans as a society soon collapsed after that. Nice try, maybe you should see the movie or read a history book or two. I guess your underlying opinion is that your Spurs put up one hell of a fight, but lost it all in the end.

One game elimination - I like our chances but we will need for the Spurs to come out strong with good energy in both the 1st and 3rd Qs. If that happens then book it.

Also this disparity in officiating on the HC is really pissing me off. Seems that most crews are giving the HC the advantage. Let 'em play and cut out these ticky tack fouls. It's the playoffs and not the regular season.

I have to agree with you there. The Spurs really need about a 15-16 point lead at the half to have enough of a cushion to weather the inevitable Hornets run in the second half. I think the Spurs win, though...CP3, West, or Chandler will get frustrated and do something stupid, then it's game over.

pawe
05-19-2008, 12:40 AM
They just have to forget the bad 3rd quarters they're having in NO. It's like a psychological thing for them. Pile on the points for the first half then put in the lockdown defenders on the 3rd qtr then close the game with the starters.

This has been the longest 4 days ever.

Whoever scheduled this game needs to be smacked upside the head.

It has been a long 4 days, and I think it plays in the Hornets favor. After game 5 when Chandler and West aggrevated some injuries, and game 6 when West was involved in that tough pick from Horry, it was a much needed rest and time ro re-energize. I know the Spurs neede some rest, but resting for 4 days will tend to help a younger teams energy and make for a fast paced game, and if thats the case look out. Before you know it, your team may be planning a fishing trip.

The keys to tonight's game:

For San Antonio:

No, not Tim Duncan. The key for San Antonio will be Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker driving the ball. If they drive the ball, they are trouble. If they settle for jumpers, your team is doomed.

For The Bugs:

Peja Dorkavich. When he scores well, they win. When he doesn't, they struggle. You assume CP3 will get his and West typically plays well in The Hive, it means other guys need to step up....and Dorkavich is the guy they need to do that.

Of course, the #1 key to any NBA game is how it is going to be rigged errrrrr officiated by the "officials". Hopefully, we see the rarest of NBA species, an unbiased officiating effort from the Three Blind Mice assigned to tonight's game.

pawe
05-19-2008, 11:47 AM
Big 3 will do their job. Fin hitting his mid range jumpers, Bruce and Ime on corner 3s as well as spirited defense against whomever they get assigned to, KT doing good on rebounds and baseline Js, Fabs hitting TD on his entry bounce passes, a little Horry, no vaughn and a lot of luck are the keys to this game.

The thing that is perplexing about this series is that once the home team goes up by about 6 or 7, the game is over. So, the Spurs need to have a 12 - 13 point advantage in the third that they can weather a run with.

Fuck. This is the most inexplicable series I've ever watched.

1) win every game
2) by double digits
3) everyone on them except for one would be over by the end of the 3rd Q

I'd of given you a cup to pee in. Or better yet asked for your source becasue you are definetly on something and it's really good stuff.

If [Doug Collins] is there, I literally have to mute my TV as his nasal whining drone gives me a headache in the 1st quarter.

I'm the same way. I know a lot of people find Collins knowledgeable and informative, but for me, shallowly, I simply cannot tolerate his voice. He often sounds to me like he's about to burst into tears.

"Collins knowledgeable and informative"

he is, even encyclopedic, league/player history. He seems to be well prepared to talk about specific players in the game, but he dumps too much info. It becomes distracting. He badly needs an editor.

Looking at the stats real quick, I've noticed that David West has yet to have back to back good games...

game 1: 32 (loss)
game 2: 10 (loss)
game 3: 23 (win)
game 4: 10 (win)
game 5: 38 (loss)
game 6: 10 (win)

this worries me a bit as it might mean that he's due for a big game... but I think as long as we keep him from scoring 2 games worth of points (high 20's - 30's) and effectively limit their open looks, then we should be looking good. but it also show that we can lose when he plays shitty and we can win when he plays good... as evidenced by games 2 and 3 respectively.

i think that as long as they double CP on the perimeter and not on the drive we'll be fine... it's when they double him on the drive that he just flips it up there to the doubling big man's guy and they get the easy 2 points.

jman3000
05-19-2008, 04:32 PM

as much as i hate hack a chandler or hack a ely...i think it has it's uses... especially at the end of quarters when you dont want to give up a three.

I think the crowd tonite is going to have the Hornets playing in a frenzy early on and that their adrenaline is going to be to their detriment by trying to do too many things too fast.

Spurs need to jump on them and keep pounding it, getting that lead as high as possible for the inevitable runs NO's will make once they settle down.

Hornets' magical season, or Spurs' defense, to end

By BRETT MARTEL, AP Sports Writer

Posted May 18 2008 6:10PM

NEW ORLEANS (AP) Jannero Pargo spun through the air on a one-handed dunk attempt, stuffed himself on the front rim and fell backward onto the court while his New Orleans Hornets teammates buckled over in laughter.

Tyson Chandler, showing no lingering effects from a foot injury last Tuesday, quickly grabbed a ball and mocked the whole sequence - fall included.

If the young Hornets are nervous about Monday night's Game 7 against the defending champion San Antonio Spurs, it didn't show after practice on Sunday.

Chandler joked that having three days off after Thursday's Game 6 loss helped his conditioning because he was able to spend more time with his 2-year-old daughter.

"She may be a little tougher to chase around than Tim Duncan,'' Chandler said. "She's been a handful out there - no disrespect to Tim Duncan. He knows he's my guy.''

No Hornets team has advanced to a conference finals in the 20-year history of the franchise. However, this squad, led by first-year All-Stars Chris Paul and David West, already has led the organization to new heights, including a franchise-record 56 victories in the regular season.
That mark earned the Hornets the second seed in the Western Conference and what seems to be an all-important home advantage in this second-round series. The home team has won every game by double digits. The Hornets have yet to lose in six home playoff games during the first two rounds of the playoffs.

"We knew it was going to be a long series, the type of team we're dealing with,'' said West, whose sore back didn't stop him from scrimmaging on Sunday and apparently won't keep him out of the lineup on Monday night.
"The reason we fought out games throughout the regular season was to be able to have a Game 7 on your home floor. We've been able to do that, so we've got to take advantage of the opportunity we have.''

This is also the first time the Hornets have faced elimination in these playoffs, something the Spurs overcame in Game 6 in San Antonio, when the Spurs blew out the Hornets, led by Manu Ginobili's 25 points.
"You've just got to be very focused, knowing that you can't blink, that you can't let the other team get on a run, get confident on a run,'' said Ginobili, who made six 3-pointers in Game 6. "It's going to be a really tense game with a lot of adrenaline. Fans are going to be going nuts. So it's going to be a very fun game to play.''

Although the Spurs have won four NBA titles in the previous nine seasons, they've never won two back-to-back. They've also never fought back from a 2-0 playoff series deficit, which they had early on in this series. The Spurs were beaten soundly in their previous three games in New Orleans, but in none of those games was their season on the brink as it is now. Whether added urgency makes San Antonio a better road team remains to be seen.

"We'll see if we thrive on pressure after Monday's game. We still don't know,'' Ginobili said. "It's a great test for both teams. A lot of pressure, as I said before, and we're going to try to be the ones that respond to that pressure the best way.''

( WTF, Manu of the Big Metallic Balls? "we'll see" )

While the Hornets appear loose and jovial, there was a poignant moment Sunday when coach Byron Scott gathered players in a huddle and told them he wasn't ready to close the book on what has been a special season.
There has been a certain magic about the Hornets this season, their first full-time campaign in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina struck in August 2005.

Paul and West both made their All-Star debuts in the same season that New Orleans hosted the popular exhibition of basketball's elite, then led the Hornets to the playoffs for the first time in four years.

The team incorporated the city's fleur-de-lis symbol into its logo and backed it up by helping with rebuilding projects all over town while offering performances worth cheering on the court.

The New Orleans Arena, often half-empty back in November and December, has been routinely sold out since midseason. Indeed, a city of world-renown culinary distinction now has an undeniable appetite for pro basketball, if only the Hornets can serve up another round of the playoffs.
"I don't want today to be our last practice,'' Scott said Sunday. "I don't want tomorrow to be our last shootaround. I just felt I needed to let them know and hopefully they feel the same way.''
