If we're gonna trade him, then let's give him to an East team that sucks, but everyone still likes. Like the Hawks.

If Splitter is a goner, then I'd really be curious to hear a rationale for not giving Mahinmi a spot in the rotation, unless the plan is just to use him to dump Bonner's contract and then sign a bunch of vet-minimum 40-year-olds who can stand around and watch Tim Duncan slowly petrify, while Manu's limbs fall off and Tony starts getting chummy with his future Laker teammates.

Hawks doesn't suck imo
they are young and will continue to develop

I say Bucks haha

Trading this guy for nothing or to dump a contract defeats the purpose. Besides, where is the confirmation that he has done the deal?

Giving Splitter away for a box of band aids is stupid. We have seen that type of stuff already last summer.

Hang on to the rights if he stays in Eur for another year and see where they are then. Besides, the Spurs don't have an 09 #1 due to the Thomas trade.

MARCA you wrote???????????

:lmao:lmao:lmao:lmao:lmao:lmao:lmao

It would be nice if the Spurs could just buy a #1 pick from somebody else for once and try and start getting younger instead of the other way around.

More like a tougher Chris Kaman, is what I would compare him to.
Anyone else agree?

This just sucks so basically the Spurs are fucked for next year because they drafted a guy who they had maybe only a 50/50 shot of getting to sign with them. What the hell was the point of drafting this guy, Spurs are a win now team who cares what this guy will be in 2 or 3 years, we need him now.

Splitter has made it clear ever since he was drafted that he WILL be going to the NBA. This is the first time ever that he has reportedly had second thoughts about coming to America. And besides this may not even be true, this is from a supposedly terrible news website.

This is real bad if it is true! It will put the Spurs back a couple years...

i would hate to say this... but if Tiago signs an extension with TAU... i think he may have seen what they did to Scola as inspiration... :pctoss

Yeah I was thinking the same thing...

I'll believe this when its official. If it happens...then the Spurs need to reconsider drafting international players. Twice is enough...

It would be nice to get an official word on Tiago before the NBA draft.

AFAIK, Marca isn't the closest source of info about Tau. It's a newspaper from Madrid and not from Vittoria's area.
The equivalent to what the E-N is to Spurs for Tau, is el correo digital http://www.elcorreodigital.com/alava/deportes/tau/ .

If this newspaper report that Splitter is set to re-sign with Tau, this rumor will have way more credibility.

Is the newspaper reporting it? I tried looking and I can't tell.

He's just costing himself the longer he waits to enter the league due to that 1st round contract scale.

Is Splitter like Manu 2.0?

Lets just say hes alot better than Oberto and Thomas...

I say that in the sense that he can dribble a basketball and finish at the rim...

And hes actually 7 feet.

I have the perfect solution guys.

Time for Dennis Lindsay to work his magic.

We all know how close Splitter and Scola are and how they wanted to play together.

So the Spurs trade Splitter's rights + Matt Bonner's contract to Houston for Steve Francis (1 year left) + cash considerations to buy out Francis's contract. Then after the deal is done Splitter will change his mind and sign with Houston.

He'll be a great fit there, backing up Yao when he's healthy and starting all the games Yao misses, and he'll have the great chemistry with Scola to smooth his transition.

And this way the Spurs get to save face by unloading Bonner's contract and putting a couple of million into Holt's pockets during these uncertain economic times!

LOL! Wrong...but funny.

Well hes definately better than Brook Lopez whos been pegged as high as Number 3 in the draft.

Much quicker and more agile and a better post game.

Fuck, I think it's true.

The guy who first reported it said in his blog Tiago signed a 2 year extension with Tau.

He said Tau offer was 8x better

ESPN here in Brazil is showing Pistons x Celtics. They'll talk about Tiago in the halftime. I'll put some updates in a few moments.

But

Fuck Splitter. I don't think you will be that stupid. When you want to follow your dream you need to sacrifice some things, like Manu did in 2002.

I hope the Spurs trade Splitter.

Awesome.

Trade this useless son of a bitch.

Trade him

He was the one thing i was really looking forward to next year.

Fuck Splitter

He just screwed himself. By taking that deal I really doubt ANY team in the NBA would invest in him after what he's done.

What good does it do to trade him now? Getting mad and dumping his rights is no way to go.

I'm disappointed if he gave indications to the Spurs that he was coming over and then changes course.

It may be a two year contract, but is there a buyout as is so often the case?

This front office has now used up just about all the goodwill it had from previous years. They must start correcting the holes on this roster and this is another squandered opportunity without a doubt.

I hope the Spurs trade Splitter. Thanks for this update and thanks in advance for any further updates. It's tough blaming Splitter for taking less money .... but he knew this exact scenario would play out.

If he wasn't interesting in sacrificing the short term for the big potential contract down the line, he should have told the Spurs that.

He is clearly a pussy anyway, we don't need anymore players who doubt their abilities. We need to draft players with confidence and a passion to succeed. Clearly Splitter has neither of these qualities. But I won't lie, it hurts.

PLEASE DRAFT LOCAL TALENT!

What make me even more mad that after that 1st report he told his hometown newspaper that he'd come to the NBA and he doesn't care about the money.

Something happened in those 2 weeks.

1 - Tau give even more money. The 1st report is the contract was 3x better, now it's 8x better

2 - Maybe his stupid agent told him to do that

ESPN Brazil Update

The same info that's in the blog, plus he has a no buyout clause after those 2 years.

He can come to the NBA for "free". I think it may help the Spurs if they want to trade him.
