View Full Version : Other than homecourt - How are they gonna beat us?

We've completely taken Peja out of his game in Games 3, 4, 5, and 6...if we had Bowen on Peja in the first two games we would've won this series by now. We took David West out of his game in Game 6. We'll continue that in Game 7 with Duncan on him.

So that leaves Chris Paul.

Who else is gonna beat us?

How do you know the Spurs will continue to stop West in Game 6? Spurs "Stopped" West in Game 4 and he came out with a 38 point, 10 rebound, 5 block effort in Game 5.

Pargo, Wright, Chandler alley-oops, oh yea and that guy Chris Paul who's been controlling the pace and game in every aspect so far in this series, especially in New Orleans are all pretty darn good and can beat the Spurs.

It's going to take a team effort to beat the Hornets tommorow night. Guys like Finley, Kurt Thomas, Oberto, Barry, and Udoka are going to have to step up. It can't just rest all on the Big 3 and Bowen.

3rd quarter letdown..relying on the three..not taking the ball to the rim..poor transition D...poor rotatins on defense.

If we can continue to take Peja out and West is off his game we have a great chance of getting the win. If West plays like he did in Game 5, we're fucked.

That game was a fluke. No NBA player, doesn't matter who, can rely on their jump shot falling all the time. Especially in a Game 7.

Poor defense and turnovers are the only way we couldn't pull out of this one.

Remember, low scoring games are in favor of us!

The Hornets will box out and and get their transition game working. This is where Peja has killed the Spurs.

West's jump shots are the real thing. He had a big game because of the late defensive rotations and he got an early start to boost up his confidence. With that thought, don't let him get into his rhythm. He hasn't felt the pressure of a game 7 so every shot he misses will have a big impact psychologically.

Unfortunately, Homecourt might just be enough, likewise any combination of Paul, West, Peja, heck Bonzi, Peterson or even Chandler or Pargo, it's a game 7 anything can happen and they like us, have a lot of options.

oh, and the officials.

Four straight blowouts against the Spurs at home is reason enough to be concerned.

what has he won?

He's never won a championship but he's won plenty of game 7s. I was responding to the comment that no offensive player can rely on just his jump shot for success in big spots. Reggie miller did that his whole career.

by the way, there have been many more successful offensive players who have relied almost exclusively on their jump shots in critical situations. Richard Hamilton, Allan Houston, Steve Smith, Ray Alllen, etc.

DWest has an inside game too. I'd rather have him shoot Js than him posting fabs.

Tim was definitely On A Mission to defend West in Game6, as if West's Game5 was severe personal insult, and he did it very well.

I haven't seen Tim's feeting moving so furiously to stay in position, his arms pestering the ball constantly. A man possessed. I bet Tim surprised himself that he could still do it.

If Bruce and Tony can continue to really bother Paul and Peja, and Tim, etc take West out of his game, that's their Big3 hurting.

On the other end, I most worried about the Spurs shooting low 40s, or lower, and esp the 3s way under 35%. GAMEOVER.

The Spurs have sucked on the road all year....it will be close to impossible for them to win tonight.

Regardless of what West says and the Hornets say, West isn't near 100%. No way he lays on the court for five minutes, and the is fine in a couple of days.

I figure West will be lucky to score 10 again.

But they certainly aren't going to come out and say West is still hurting. Not at this juncture.

And then they say he participated in a full court scrimmage? What are they thinking?

I don't believe for a second that West was as hurt as he pretended to be..

He was pissed off, his team was getting blown out and he wanted out of the game.

So tonite we'll have to hear about the miraculous recovery and courage of Willis Reed...........err....David West.

I think you guys are missing the point. We've beaten them when both Paul and West shooting well. It's the rest of the team that we need to contain.

The pyrotechnics ???

Seriously, i think it comes down to what Spurs team shows up today: the 24-min team or the 48-min team. Also, it will depend on how many of the Spurs big 3 are "on":

3 = easy win :flag:
2 = close game, good chance of winning at chutch time :toast
1- = we get blown out :(

Gotta play 48 min tonight, enough of this have a small lead at the half and then get our ass kicked in the 2nd. We need to stay close the whole game and then make plays down the stretch. This is about our D and the big 3. Timmy has to be great tonight, and i believe he will. Tony and Manu must be aggressive, if they are we are going to win this game.

stay close the whole game? Id rather see a blowout by the spurs this time than watch a satisfyingly down to the last shot type of game.

We might lose if Pop doesn't shake up the line-up to start the 3rd. IMO, he should start Ime and/or Barry for the beginning of the third. Then take them out after a few minutes (but only if they're not producing).

I don't know if we can afford West and then Paul joining in the second half like in game 5.

I just say the play tight defense on the whole team. Go down swinging. Contest every shot.
