They have a tendency to play the teams like the Jazz and Trailblazers as if they already won the game and playing is just a formality. Why they do this time and time again, I'll never know. Why they never stop themselves from doing it, I don't know. Right now they are playing crappy defense, if you can call it defense, and less than mediocre offense. Now their offense will come and go and we all know that's not their game, but when they don't put up the strong defensive effort...even the crappiest teams have a great chance to not only beat but pummel the Spurs. I know they can't win them all as no team can. But you'd expect a team with the strengths the Spurs possess to at least win the games they should. Phoenix and Sacramento demanded they play full tilt and they responded as such. Why then do they play like utter crap against a team like the Trailblazers then?

Dre_7

The Spurs live and die by their defense. They might not score a million, but they know how to stop the other team from scoring. I'm not seeing that at all tonight. Without defense the Spurs are nothing. Tonight, so far, they have nothing. And they're probably going to lose because of it.

For the benefit of those who can't see the game and aren't sure about the basketball terms:

Corner = at the arc in the corner.
Wing = at or near the arc at 45 degree angle from basket on either side
Top = in the middle of the court above or at the top of the key.
FT Line extended = spot just to the right or left of the free throw line, imaginary line extending out toward each wing.
Right or Left = position on the offensive team's end as viewed looking from the half court-in facing the basket.

They don't look THAT much alike that the home announcers can't tell the difference. They aren't identical twins or anything.

Solid D

The Blazers really wanted this game and they had great effort, great spacing, great movement without the ball, great execution, and great shooting.

The Spurs as a group had poor effort, poor anticipation of cutters and they were a step or two late almost every trip. Malik brought effort, but little else.

There was a major size problem at the 3 frontcourt spots. Patterson was an animal on the ball and on the glass.

Solid D

Tim missed FTs in the crunch, and forced up a really bad shot in crunch.

True, but over the course of the whole game the Spurs were good from the line. 23-28. They were perfect the first 3 quarters. When you miss FTs and wither in the 4th in the 2nd game of a back to back, you know it's the legs, whether they make millions and are professionals...or not.'

I noted that Tony looked quite bouncy and energetic, really probing the defense, trying to and often succeeding in driving, had a good game face on, esp compared to the PHX and SAC games.

What's really worrying again, is that the Spurs aren't doing well on the boards, vs earlier in the season. Tim gets his usually, but everybody else seems to be slacking off.
