When Bowen plays Kobe, he does a very good job. Bowen makes him work and his shooting percentage isn't normally great against Bowen. He gets his points, but more points for Kobe at a lower percentage isn't exactly the formula for the Lakers success. Kobe is (mostly) smarter about not jacking up shots than he used to be. Kobe will get his.

The Spurs will have trouble matching up with Odom and might also have trouble with Radmanovic. Odom will probably be guarded by Oberto, and Odom should be able to do well against him. Manu will be guarding Radmanovic, who should be able to use his size well against Manu.

All that said, it's not like the Lakers have the personnel to contain the Spurs Big 3 either.

It's not an easy matchup for either team.

I've never seen a PG execute as efficiently as Paul did in that series. West could mostly do no wrong. I still can't figure out how the Spurs managed to win that series. Can the Lakers possibly be tougher?


Uhhh . . . yes.

The Lakers have the best player in the NBA and they have the best overall offense in the NBA. Their frontcourt, while not particularly physical, is long, athletic, and extremely quick. (quite a tough combination for the spurs' frontline, which has players who are more physical but much slower) I personally think the lakers are a very tough matchup for the spurs (easily the toughest of the three other teams remaining in my opinion). If you watched the Jazz series, you saw what the Lakers frontline did to a slower, more physical Utah frontline: They dominated them. Of course, the big difference there is Duncan is an all time great player and Boozer isn't. Also, the Lakers are another very deep team with shooters at every position. I worry about Gasol getting Duncan into foul trouble because he's very aggressive around the basket and draws a lot of fouls. And even if Duncan is able to get him into foul trouble in retaliation, Gasol getting into foul trouble is no where near as big a deal to the lakers as Duncan getting into foul trouble is to the spurs. This is because the Spurs run their offense through Duncan (especially against teams that like to run like the Lakers and Suns) while the Lakers run their offense through Kobe. Also, Lamar Odom is playing better than he ever has before in the playoffs. (Although I still need to see him do it against a big team before I trust him - he was awful against the suns the past few years and his teams paid for it by getting their asses kicked in all three of those series) I think he could be a rough matchup for whoever guards him because of his combination of footspeed, ball skills, and length. We'll see though. I'm pulling for the spurs. I hate the Lakers (who doesn't right?). I'm never going to count out the champs.

The answer is yes. Chris Paul and David West were great in the previous series. The thing with the Hornets is that they played so great because of Chris Paul and his playmaking abilities.

The Lakers have three very good playmakers in the starting line-up with Kobe, Odom, and Gasol. And, those three are all above average passers. I think it's been said before, but the Lakers are probably the best passing team in the league. Because Kobe, Odom, and Gasol all have the ability to score one on one, their passing skills make even more of an impact.

Offensively, the Lakers can definitely play better than the Hornets did. The Lakers defense is more suspect, but even though the Hornets played really well most of the games defensively, I don't think they're a much better defense than the Lakers, if at all.
