FYI - Just got notice that Ernie Johnson (TNT) is going to be speaking at Community Bible Church off Gold Canyon/1604 this Sunday at 9:15 and 11a. Just putting it out there for those who wanted to check it out. No cost.

2477 N Loop 1604 - 78232

I obviously can't attend, but is it about his medical ordeal? I'd like to hear it if it is. Not that I can, but just sayin'...

Who's Ernie Johnson, and why is he so holy?

I'm not sure what it's about, actually. We just found out about it the other day. Evidently there was a deal made between one of the staff members and EJ - and he said that if SA made the conference finals, he'd speak.

But, I know he's a strong Christian, and he's spoken about it in relation to his ordeal before, so it'd make sense.

Not sure what you're getting at. Don't go see him, then. It'll probably still go on without you.

:lmao

I know it will, I just want to know what his big ordeal is? I just want to know if it's bigger than mine. If not, I might be a "circuit rider"! Sheesh:downspin:

I'm a member so I will attend. For those who don't attend, my sig has a link to the CBC website where you can view a recording of the past weeks message.

I didn't know he is a Christian. That is awesome!

I spent my first year-or-so as a Christian at Community Bible Church. It was much smaller then.

I've been a Christian for most of my life and have been a member of CBC since 2001. It's a very good church and I highly recommend it for newcomers.

CBC is growing at a ridiculous rate. It's one of the 40 fastest growing churches in the country.

I agree. CBC is a great church for a new Christian, or someone who is not a Christian but is interested in becoming a part of "the household of faith." One word for these people is "seeker."

When I was there, I was never sure about some of the church's beliefs beyond "the basics." I don't recall them taking a position on Calvinism (a wise move!), or spiritual gifts (what they are and how they are expressed), or what exactly constitutes the church. As a result, I'm not sure that the members knew what they believed either. But Robert Emmitt is a good pastor and cares about his people, and tends to preach very application-oriented "topical" sermons. So it's a good church. I would recommend it.

i've had my theological issues with the church, but overall it's where my wife and kids are being fed the most. To me Sunday is just 1 out of 7 days of christianity, so "topical" is ok. I'll attend the river city service by myself in the morning and cbc later in the day with my family when I feel I need more than "topical".

nevertheless, robert is a terrific guy and i have a lot of wonderful friends at cbc. btw, cbc has totally help me get closer to christ.
