View Full Version : Mistreatment of Spurs fans in LA

Anyone been a victim of the gangland mentality of many Laker fans in Los Angeles?

I know I had my run ins with Laker fans. I was at Hooters in Santa Monica and was actually pushed by a Laker fan to fight after game two in '04. In '02, when Dublins was still on Sunset, Laker fans threatened to "beat our ass" after the game.

If there are LA Spurs fans going to the games or out to sports bars for this series, go with friends and be careful.

We all know about the riot they had in 2000 after the Lakers won. I saw that first hand because I lived one block west of the Figueroa corridor at the time. It was more like a gangbanger convention than a celebration.

I was in San Antonio last year when we won it and it was like night and day. The great people of San Antonio know how to celebrate and party. It isn't about acting like a hoodlum and destroying everything in your path, unless you live in LA.

Well you have to understand this is LA.

The West Coast NY. Hollywood. Freaks of every kind literally. This is where the Vegas folk go to rest so.. I am not in the least bit surprised.

Oh, yeah.

All Lakers fans are like that.

Sometimes grandmas and grandpas do it, too.

It has nothing to do with the behavior of the Spurs fan. Even spurs fans who don't wear spurs outfits and keep their heads lowered get sniffed out, and pummeled.

What kind of bogus malarkey is this? There are morons in every town across the world. And sometimes they don't have to have an excuse.

Grow up, and try to not stereotype all fans with negative behavior.

After all, we don't think ALL spurs fans post complete nonsense. Just a few.
Present company not excepted.

I've been living in LA since 2000, and while I've never been physically threatened, I've dealt with a lot of shit.

All my friends were Laker fans, so it got pretty nasty there for a couple years. It was nice seeing all the Laker fans "humbled" over the last couple years, because as a whole they are the most insecure fanbase about their team. When they were shitty they talked about the glory years and how bad everyone around Kobe was, but as SOON as Bynum was playing good they were back in a flash. Even more so when they got Gasol.

Now it is back to the way it used to be. As soon as the Spurs were down 4 on Wednesday, I immediately received a call from a extremely jubilant Laker fan who was practically crying saying eat that bitch, your team sucks and is old, woooooooo and then laughing hysterically as I hung up on him. Then I got a bunch more txt msgs like "Looks like your team just got owned" blah blah blah.

I always remain civil, when we were in the midst of our championship runs the last 3 years I never gloated, when we won the championship I was proud but never rubbed it in anyones face. But Laker fans are so insecure about the past couple of years that as soon as they won ONE game, it was back to normal.

LAKERS RULE AND YOU CAN SUCK MY DICK BECAUSE YOU DONT HAVE KOBE.

K, I am done ranting, but yea Laker fans in general are just sucky and misinformed.

I was at Game 1 and no one did anything to any of the Spurs fans. Kori has attended games at Staples as has Man in Black and I am sure they will tell you the Laker fans are fine, save for a little good natured heckling.

If you are going to wear an opposing team's jersey into any arena, you should expect a little ribbing.

Only time I have seen it personally get slightly out of hand at Staples was during that bitter Kings series in 2002. After Horry hit "The Shot" in Game 4, the crowd was all over the dork Kings fans leaving the arena and I did see one guy get his gay little Kings Paper Crown hat ripped off his head and shredded in front of him by a hard core Mexican gang looking type. But I didn't mind, the Kings fans had been talking a lot of shit that series and during that game when they were way up before pulling a Spurs.

Don't get your feelings hurt over it. That's just the way it is. I'm glad you're the exception though.

Your Duncan comparison is a little off though. SA has always been pretty Spurs crazy. It's only in recent years that the enthusiasm from locals has faded because they've been spoiled by the team's success. In a few years after TD retires, we'll see who the real fans in SA are.

If you're in LA watching a Lakers game and talking shit to a bunch of drunk Laker fans, you probably deserve a beating. Wouldn't be any different if I went to San Antonio, wore my bright ass yellow jersey, drank some XX and started telling the Locals that the Spurs are a pussy-ass asterisk* team.

Either way, classy or no classy, Spur or Laker fan, you know you're getting a beat down.

I actually had a good experience with Lakers fans. We were in L.A. obviously and we had our Spurs hats and jerseys on (this was during the '05 playoffs). A Laker fan stopped us and said "Hey I have a question, did the Spurs win tonight?" and we told him they did. He said "Well, that's good for them they are a great team, enjoy the win." And we told him and his family thanks. As we were leaving, he said "Oh wait, one more question, how do you like Derek Fisher?" We all laughed and I said "We don't".

I've worn Spurs stuff to many Spurs-Lakers games and have only had problems once -- that was the only time I sat in the upper bowl "nose bleed" section. If you sit in the higher-priced seats the Laker fans are very courteous.

On the other hand, Slayer, I recall one time at that Santa Monica Hooters you mentioned. You were there too -- it was during a Spurs-Lakers playoff game with some obnoxious fans. I don't know if you remember this (or were even aware of it) but I followed a couple of those guys into the mens room after they seemed to be following you in there. Fortunately, nothing happened (other than the Spurs winning the game).

The unifying principle seems to be that that the more affluent (and sober) Laker fans seemed to be the best behaved. I would venture to guess that's probably true of Spurs' fans also. What a shock!

That's a fucking lie. Houston a shithole in the middle of hell. LA has to be the most fun major city in the country to live in.

How so? The beach is free (unless you go down to Bolsa Chica in Orange County). Hiking doesn't cost anything.

LA has one of the most spectacular drives in the country up the Angeles Crest Highway. PCH and Mulholland ain't bad neither.

LA's got two spectacular museums, the Getty Center, and the Getty Villa that are absolutely free, and are world-class.

Vasquez Rocks up on the 14 is a great place to go spend a day screwing around. Entrance Price: $0.

I know Houston's technically not too far from the beach either, but I'd rather go swimming at the Riverwalk than in the cess pool of Galveston.

When I was in L.A. for games 3 and 4 in the Faker series back in '03, after the game me and my friend were walking just outside the staple backto the car after a loss.

We were both wearing Robinson jerseys and mine was signed.
A coloured teen who was walking up behind us was giving us smack and that's all OK. I chose to represent the silver and black in L.A. so when we lose, I expect smack hard.......BUT!

When he started shouting to "Retire that jersey right now", I turned around and told him to have some respect for that jersey. He asked me what I was gonna do about it and my friend pulled my arm and we continued walking.

Than he turned personal and calling me all kinds of shit and I shouted for him to keep his face shut and he better not wanting me to turn around again.
Of course this fired up the lil' bitch and he started approaching me and my friend closer. Just as I wanted to turn around and face him, the 2 only other Spurs fans wearing silver and black we had seen all day came running to us and the lil' bitch ran away. Turns out these 2 Spurs fans had seen the upcoming mayhem and recognized me from the home games.

Looking back at it, I am very glad they came running to us as I would have put me and my friend in danger, not knowing what kind of people I was dealing with over there in that part of L.A.

What could I care? I was one of the biggest D-Rob fans around and taking smack for the 2 losses, but when the comments were directed personaly to my idol, that's a no-no.

But again, it was just one individual who looked like he wouldn't be able to afford game tickets and was just hanging around the Staple to talk smack.

The Faker fans surounding us in the Staple at our seats, were booing us at first, bit after the San Antonio Express photographer took some pics of me and my friend in our seats, they all were thinking that I was some sort of celebrity of some sorts and they were at ease and respectful. Also because of my Spurs tattoo that was considered hard-core even over there. We started talking about the game and they told me they all had season tickets from way back in the 80's and all was good and respect was granted.

So all in all it was a great experience over there.
Being at the Staple and being the only one going crazy and pumped up at the Spurs introductions was awesome. Looking back at it I don't know how I did it, but it was pure adrenaline.

Now back home over here in Holland, I have an immidate negative feeling about kids wearing Faker gear. It turns out though, that when you get to know them a little bit that negative feeling is waranted.

I respect the old-school Laker fans from the show-time era.
These days the most of them are just Faker fans.

I've found that MOST of the people that give you shit in LA aren't really Laker fans, they're displaced LA Raider fans who finally realized the Raiders ain't coming back and that their team still sucks( GO CHARGERS!).

LL is right, when I go to Staples, and should me team lose, I let them say what they say and then I ask them, hey do you know how your team got the draft rights to Magic Johnson?
They don't know...so I say...bandwagon huh...and then I tell them the story.

Then, I say they've been informed and continue on my path. Should they attempt to physically impede my path, then...I walk zig-zag ala Ginobili style, then should they attempt again, I just talk loud and ask....WHY YOU TRYING TO START SHIT WITH ME BANDWAGON? At which point, most REAL Laker fans would get the offending wise-ass to back off. Truth-be-told though, it's best to be in at least a pack of 2. It's also wise practice to know where the red-coats are at Staples. Again, I don't want to paint a wide-brush on Laker fans, as this board can truly attest, there are Laker fans that appreciate good basketball and then there are assholes that just like to talk shit.
Y'all be cool...it's just basketball. No one here is going to receive a portion of that playoff check now are they?

Fuck you.

I'm not scared of fighting anybody one on one. What I am talking about 10 to 1 or 20 to 1 situations.

There were some Spurs fans that went to game one and they said it got ugly. That is why I created this thread.

pussy.

I've been to a lot of games over the last 4 years and have never seen LA like this before. I'm sure it was during the 3peat years, but not since then. Fans in the lower level are wearing Lakers gear and are actually making noise, they're even getting to the game on time and staying until the end! It's a different place right now... but I guess that's what winning will do for you.
