I know Charles Barkley said this awhile back now but it seems its been catchin on. How he describes the defending Champions as Cockroaches. Im a really big Spurs fan, and i dont only find this offensive beacuse im a homer, but if thats the best way to describe championship resilliancy then that is disrespectful and a disgrace.

did they ever call Russells Celtics cockroaches?
did they ever call Jordans Bulls cockroaches?
did they ever call Shaq's Lakers (yes shaq's lakers) cockroaches?

of course not. but they call this generations modern dynasty cockroaches?
i know it some form of analogy, but is that how you describe the most classiest champions in the NBA?

Yeah, I don't know what Chuck's problem is. He has always gotten the Spurs back on the national scene until this year.

Maybe he bet on the Spurs big during the regular season and lost alot of money. And as a result Chuck is pissed.

That or maybe Timmy didn't get him dem socks.

No. Because unlike a cockroach, they all died.

The fans should take this up as a rallying cry. Something like COCKROACHES FOREVER! At least put a bunch of them in the L.A. locker room and the TNT sportscasters area. Gather up a bunchof them and deliver them to Ernie Johnson on air with a card from Barkely. I always think that whenever anyone uses a slur you should turn it back on them. I'm not clever enough to figure out a terrific use of the concept, but I've seen enough clever blogs on here to be assured that someone can. What do you guys say?

Realize Barkely if a fucking tard, and will never know what it feels like to where a ring. I agree, it's disrespectful, and really it's just jealousy. I've never really noticed but I bet he gets really jealous, when Kenny, and Majic with they're rings sparkling, gleaming, and blinding him. Who has the sig, that says "Get me dem rings!" That says it all.

You gotta be putting me on with that!

They're like a bunch of cockroaches. It's not what they eat and tote off, it's what they fall into and mess up that hurts.

That's my favorite sports quote about cockroaches. :)

(That loss to TCU cost Texas the national championship that year.):bang

You are pathetic.

Barkley said the Spurs are like cockroaches because they are relentless, and never die.

It was a compliment to perseverance.

I thought Utard fans were dumb . . .

It's a compliment. The Spurs are like cockroaches -- nobody likes 'em but nobody can get rid of 'em.

They never die and always survive after the more delicate "frontrunners" are gone. Like that old saw about only cockroaches thriving after a nuclear war.:lobt2:

To keep the show interesting, somebody needs to be the bad guy. So, don't take it seriously.

i just wish they could find better ways to give these san antonio spurs the credit and glory they have earned. Larry Bird wins 3 titles (none back to back) and they show the same stupid clip of him waving his rag from the sideline every friggin second. Garnett hasnt won squat, yet they show his stupid "clutch" commerical when hes been everything but....the media doesnt know anything but money

It could be a knock on the Spurs as a team that can't decide if it's dominant or not.

After all, we have the best winning percentage of any major sports team, we have dominated the NBA since 1999, and yet, we cannot repeat.

I think what Charles is eluding to, is unlike past Dynasties, you don't know when the Spurs are over. You knew the Bulls were done in 1999. You knew the (Shaq) Lakers were done in 2005.

People keep writing the Spurs off, then they come back and win another series. And another Championship.

That's why, even if the Lakers win, it's not over for the Spurs.

To paraphrase Twain: Reports of the Spurs' death are often exaggerated.

EDIT: Just to add, I'd like to think that once history decides this Spurs Dynasty is over (hopefully, many years from now), it will get proper respect. I'm sure not everyone loved the Bird Celtic's either, esp. not Laker fans!

2004 Boston Redsox - "The Idiots" (self named, yes they were)
Dennis Rodman - "The Worm"
Randy Johnson - "The Big Unit" (great having PENIS as your nickname)
Guy Lefleur - "The Flower" (yes some people really called him that and yes I know it's English for le fleur)
Gaye Stewart - "The Gaye One"
Marcel Dionne - "The Little Beaver"

i understand what youre saying, but i just feel that that its a poor way to describe a very prideful and competitve team such as the spurs. would they call the celtics/lakers cockroaches?

i dont think so

I didn't take Charles' comment as a put down. He would rather travel to LA, Boston, NYC, or any other place but "Podunkville" as he called San Antonio. Hey, when compared with these other cities, no one can blame him.

He was our biggest supporter among media types until this year.

OMG - I wonder if this is why they played La Cucaracha in the arena right before the game started. It seemed so completely random, but it makes sense if game ops was responding to what Charles said.

It doesnt bother me at all, he said the Spurs are like cockroaches they just won't die...if you ask me that is a compliment, because we are hard to put away and dont give up easy. While I dont like being referred to as a cockroach I dont really think he meant it in a bad way.

Is the 350-pound Round Mound a Boortz fan?

"…Muslims don't eat during the day during Ramadan. They fast during the day and eat at night. Sort of like cockroaches," talk show radio host Neal Boortz said on his hit show of the same name."

The Spurs, and Muslims, are hard to get rid of. :lol

I hear what you're saying, but you must consider Charles Barkley's background and sorely lacking intelligence. He's one of those types that speaks without thinking and, sadly, many people seem to be finding that cool. Sad state of affairs.

Bottom line is a pretty dumb guy made that statement.

You guys are funny...Barkley has been a closet Spurs fan for years and now that Kenny has come around he has switched...thats why those guys are so much fun to watch...I'd love to actually watch the live feed...I'll bet theres some really great shit gets said while we are watching commercials...

yeah but you gotta remember, the Spurs have been the underdogs all during the playoffs. Everyone wants to see the Spurs out. Well, except for us...you couldn't call LA or Boston cockroaches cuz everyone's riding their nuts.

I was going to say the same thing but wanted to read through the whole topic to make sure no one else didn't say it. I tried to look down to see Charles' reaction (the TNT set is right below my seats) but the TNT guys scampered off set super quick before the song was played. The TNT guys were pretty cool with everyone in the section though. Barkley interacted with the guy in the front row of the section... that was the jersey he was holding up and joking around with during the halftime show. What all did he say about it? We couldn't hear them but we could see him holding it up on camera and laughing, etc.

Is this thread for real, do your pussies really hurt that bad when a commentator (a shitty one at that) calls you names? cry much? For a team and fanbase that are supposed to be so tough, you couldn't tell by threads like this.
