View Full Version : Why so many vicious Laker fans here?
Not only has there been an overabundance of Lakers fans posting, but their comments about the Spurs and San Antonio have been especially harsh. After winning the first two games in LA, they seemed to get even more vicious - not at all like a confident group of fans. Maybe they all remember that two seasons ago, the Lakers were up 3-1 in their first round series against the Suns, before getting spanked 3 games in a row. (BTW - Phil Jackson was 44-0 as a coach when leading a series before the Lakers blew that one.) And their worst nightmare is for this series to get to 2-2, with the Spurs having momentum. Being embarassed and worried can make some people act like assholes. I thought that might be the answer.
But they are also talking so much city smack - not at all like a confident group of LA residents. Surely people wouldn't say such terrible things about another city and its citizens over a basketball rivalry? So what else could it be? Maybe it's the headlines that California home repossessions are up 327% over last year. Maybe it's just the sheer embarassment that a Congresswoman from California just had her own house repossessed. Or maybe it's the worry that her house was sold for $200K less than she paid for it in 2007, and she left the lender holding the bag. If it happens to a member of Congress, a lot of "regular" people must be upside-down too. So OK... embarassed and worried. Makes them behave like assholes. Got it.
I could almost make myself feel sorry for them. But then there are all those nasty comments about the Spurs and their fans making excuses. That's a little hard to accept from people who blame their over-extended credit on the people who loaned them the money! And the comments about the Riverwalk being dirty? I don't think so... not from residents of the most polluted city in the country, within the most polluted state. And how about the comments about Texans being stupid? Kinda harsh when fewer than 70% of California ninth-graders will graduate high school. (They have 150,000 dropouts per year, but their state laws allow high school students to work 48 hours per week. Brilliant.) There's an old saying about people who live in glass houses.
Nope... after careful consideration, there can only be one reason why there are so many asshole Lakers fans here:
They're assholes, there's a lot of them, and this is better than any other place they are allowed to post.
Spurs fans don't need any excuses, because this series is a long-assed way from over. This LA roster isn't that much different from the one that got blown out by Phoenix last year. (Gasol wasn't there, but they had a healthy Andrew Bynum. I'd be more worried if they had Shaq, even at his age.) And we don't need city smack from any city that is half a billion dollars in debt, and cutting school funding so that it will have enough cash on hand to pay its bills. Winning an NBA Championship might provide LA residents with a ray of sunshine in an otherwise crappy existence. But they shouldn't invest in any T-shirts just yet.

There is no such thing as momentum in basketball. Things can change quickly from one game to the next. you could say if the spurs win game 4 they will have momentum so they should win game 5. Doesn't work that way. Look at what happened to the lakers from game 2 to game 3. No momentum there.
that's three reasons. did you attend high school in LA?
Always good to hear from a Washington fan - the dropout capitol of the entire country. You calling someone else stupid by saying they went to school in LA... that's just too much irony for one post. (BTW - "irony" doesn't mean "like an iron".)
It's a single reason with three conditions. Sort of like, "Our spending went up and our tax base went down."

The Lakers haven't forgotten that they have been down 20 twice in this series. And they know the Spurs won't let a lead like that slip away again. Momentum, pressure... call it what you want to. But if the series goes to 2-2, the Lakers will be the ones feeling it.

Sounds like the only one insecure is yourself. The majority of Lakers fan don't even live in LA. There's plenty of things I dislike about LA, but SA's one of those cities that offers nothing better. LA's economy even in recession is infinitely more relevant than SA so I fail to see your point. It's also kinda hypocritical to make fun of LA's educational system when there's not one college in SA that's worth attending. Everything you hate about Lakers fans basically describes yourself. :lmao

The only thing Los Angeles and San Antonio have in common is they both have Spanish names.
Even the Mexican food in LA is crappy.

"You'll love our enchiladas. Instead of a tortilla, we use a sort of pita, flat-bread thing. And in place of cheese we use tofu. And instead of salsa, we cover it in a lovely mango chutney. We serve it with sides of fava beans, and a key lime rice pilaf. And you can get a nice raspberry margarita - only it's made with raspberry wine instead of tequila."
It's what Mexican food would be... if Mexico were taken over by PETA, and they began dosing the water supply with Prozac and hormones. What's creepy about that?
Speaking of creepy - did you know that Jack Nicholson actually entered the room and saw Roman Polanski having anal sex with a 13 year old girl that he had drugged? And he didn't report it? (True story. It was at Nicholson's house.) Conjure up that mental image the next time you see that old sausage sitting courtside.

Trinity University in San Antonio is the #1 liberal arts college in the west for about the 100th year running. Plus, they had that really cool multiple-lateral game winning play in their football game against Millsaps this year.
It's probably "worth attending" and might, arguably at least, be more academically rigorous than any college or university in the Greater Los Angeles metropolitan area. But that's probably just my stilted opinion.

I pointed out that LA fans and sportswriters, in particular, have no room to be hurling certain insults about our city. Your best bet right now is to stick to basketball discussions, because your city has more than its share of problems. And all the things I said are facts, and not just bigoted bullshit.
And I started by pointing out that the Lakers lost a playoff series after being up 3-1, just two seasons ago. And that was a team coached by the Zen Master, and with a very similar roster to this year's Lakers team.
I also pointed out that last year's Lakers had a VERY similar roster, and got pounded by the Suns, who in turn got beated by the Spurs - who had a VERY similar roster to this year's Spurs. Pau Gasol in place of a healthy Andrew Bynum? You don't really believe that is going to take the Lakers from first-round flop to NBA champs?
When this series goes to 2-2 the pressure is going to be on the Lakers to hold serve. And they will know that they only have to stumble once.

LA is not my city, I'm a student here, but I fail to see what's so great about SA. The 05-06 roster was not remotely similar. Kwame Brown, Smush Parker, Brian Cook, Mo Evans, Von Wafer, Devin Green, Laron Profit, Devean George, Medvedenko, Jim Jackson, and Aaron Mckie were all on the 05-06 roster. That's 11 members on that roster that's not on the current roster. Besides Kobe, Lamar, and Luke , the Lakers are basically a completely different team. Players like Sasha, and Ronny were extremely young and they have obviously improved. Check your facts, the roster is completely different.

And I did well at each.

Kobe, Bynum, Vujacic, Turiaf, Walton, and Odom. Smush Parker's numbers were amazingly similar to Fisher's this year. And they had Devean George, who Lakers fans thought a lot of.
I never said it was the same roster, but it sure as hell looks similar to me. Are you saying that team was so bad that losing a series with a 3-1 lead was expected? Shouldn't the Zen Master have been able to figure out some way to keep that from happening?
The point is, a lot of the players on the floor tonight have a very fresh memory of blowing a series lead. And the Spurs have a very fresh memory of coming back from 0-2. When this series goes to 2-2, which team do you think is going to start having doubts?

Continuing the argument is pointless, in the end. I love my city and think that it has at least one absolutely stellar university to boast among its many other fine qualities. You, it seems, find that it lacks redeeming qualities that exist in Los Angeles, including your suggestion that it might lack even a worthwhile university.

Why thank you. It took some doing, but I think it will ultimately serve the league and all of its participants well. The steady decline in viewership that we have been experiencing since the advent of the Sperms reign as champions was something that had to be addressed. Thankfully, the Memphis brass was well aware of the situation and was happy to oblige.
I would like to express my gratitude to the fine folks of San Antonio for the temporary housing they provided to the Larry O'Brien trophy. But I think it's time to relinquish the honor to its rightful owner.
Once again, thank you.

Fuck the college thing that shit is pointless.
What's important to know is that a Tim Duncan-led Spurs team has 4 titles.
A Kobe Bryant-led team has ZERO titles.
That's all that's important. Kobe wants what Tim has and he hasn't gotten it yet. Tim wants to keep his and he ain't giving it up easily.
The rest of that crap is idle banter meant to deflect your attention.

Exactly. It's the tool of the ignorant. Sadly, its coming from both sides.
Totally in agreement. What does the city itself have to do with the series anyway. There are good things and bad things about every city. I cannot believe we are in the midst of a great series of BASKETBALL and these bufoons from both sides are arguing about which city had the best Mexican food!
I apologize for my fellow LA fans that stoop to this level. While I myself will definetly defend a personal attack and give the shit back, I often wonder why it comes to this. 90% of the threads have very little to do with basketball. It's a shame.
It's very ironic that people, like the starter of this thread, call out others for posting derogatory comments about whatever, then follow it up with their own. Mabye someday we can all grow up and treat each other with respect and talk some basketball. Is that not why were all here in the first place? Because were fans of our teams?
Good luck in game 4... may the best team win!

If your team was that shitty, how did you ever manage to get up 3-1 on Phoenix to begin with? Luck?
The point is, you blew a fucking 3-1 lead in the playoffs. That's a historical feat. And a whole lot of the players on this team were part of that. And they will remember it when the series goes to 2-2.
Hell, the Celtics are feeling it, and they didn't recently blow a 3-1 series lead.

There are 4 players that wer active on that team that are on this years team. It was a 2 seed playing a 7 seed. That we made it 3-1 was very lucky. It also was a team playing way better than expected and surprising the 2nd seed out of the gate. All that and it still came down to a last second 3pt shot. Your suggesting that those 4 players will remember and wilt is simply your opinion and nothing more. My opinion is also that they will remember, learned, and not alow it to happen again.

Um. No. The Lakers were up 3-1 to Phoenix because of some dude whose name I can't remember. All I remember is that the dude could shoot the ball from inside, outside, this side, that side, and the free throw line. He even had a last second basket in one those games for the win. His name escapes me right now. I think he still plays for them.
So no, I wouldn't exactly call it luck. Magic? No. That wasn't him. Kareem? No, not him either. Shit.
Yeah. They did blow a 3-1 lead. A three-one lead they had no business having. No business. Sorry, I meant "No fucking business." Just in case you wanted some emphasis. A team which had Smush Parker, Luke Walton and Kwame Brown as starters blew a 3-1 lead to Phoenix.
I hope that gives you some comfort. Because you really do need to chill.

There is no such thing as momentum in basketball. Things can change quickly from one game to the next. you could say if the spurs win game 4 they will have momentum so they should win game 5. Doesn't work that way. Look at what happened to the lakers from game 2 to game 3. No momentum there.

Poster was right, you must be on crack or trying to kid yourself if you think this year's Lakers squad is similar to one TWO YEARS AGO. You keep saying they had a healthy Andrew Bynum. Andrew did not even start, let alone play meaningful minutes; he wasn't even developed yet. The team had Kwame and Parker as starters, both of whom have fell off the face of the basketball world. Don't try to kid yourself trying to compare Fisher's number with Smush's because if you do not know the difference you know nothing about basketball. The only reason they were up 3-1 is Kobe's performance in the 4th quarter and overtime where he hit the game winner. Other than him and Odom, the rest of the team didn't perform.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Most LA fans have probably never even been to SA and vice-versa for SA fans. It's just another childish point to argue when the focus should be on the games, teams, players, etc.I was born in Texas - thank god my dad moved us to LA when I was 7 years old - I have been back to visit several times, unfortunately - besides perhaps Austin, you couldn't pay me enough to live there.
Actually, you couldn't pay me enough to live anywhere near the "congested" areas of Los Angeles either (I live on the edge of the wilderness about 30 miles north of LA proper). In So Cal in general, people are shallow, self centered, and uncultured - Nor Cal is a much better place to live.
That being said, what the hell does it matter what the city you are from is like when you root for a sport team? To many lame posts on this thread.

I really get the feeling that there is one person who is coming up with these fake trolls as the Spurs face a new opponent. They all seem to follow the same pattern in terms of what they say and capitalizing every word.

I'll be glad when the Spurs eliminate the Fakers. This board isn't worth posting on anymore, just a bunch of bandwagon Fakers fans insulting Spurs fans. Try to have a point and not about which town has more obese people & the like.

stfu u stupid fukin laker bandwagon, u dont know nothing so when all those stupid spurs fans talk shit about ur team than thats okay wit u?
damnnn kidd shudnt u be in school too???
Bandwagon? I have held season tickets for over 25 years. Judging by the content of your posts, your grammar, your spelling, your profanity, lack of any credible content, i'd guess I've had tix 3 times longer than you have been alive. Either that or your just an ignorant fool.
You are an embarrassment to LA (if you live here) and it's "real" fanbase (if you really are one). And the people that talk shit like you, from the other teams fanbase are just a lame as you.
Per your last sentence (and i use that word sentence lightly since it appears you could not form one if you tried) I would suggest you get to some kind of school and learn basic english.
You should also change your screename as well cause you everything that Kobe is not.

Have you ever been to LA? Partied with the dumbasses from that sorry state? Everyone is an asshole. How you look, what you wear, what kind of car you drive, who do you know, where do you live, what kind of house do you have. It's no wonder every Lakerfan here is an massive douche.
Spoke like you've met everybody in L.A. Very qualitative post there. :lol:lol

I agree. Those types of fans embarrass me to. Those kinds definitely are the main reason this thread was composed.

Well, most laker fans are not like a lot of these idiots who only come here to inflate their manly egos behind the anonimity of computer screen. All pussies in person. I have had my run in here with a few from both teams and will admit to pushing back when provoked but I thought the series was about basketball. There is no shortage of these guys from either teams fanbase you must admit.
Good luck in the game tonight. I hope we kick your butts, its a clean game, no bogus calls, and let the best team win.

I agree, but then the composer turns around and pulls the same BS he's complaining about. Go figure.

Even the Mexican food in LA is crappy.
Uh, no.
We have more Mexicans from Mexico than anywhere else. Consequently, the Mexican food is actually, say, Mexican.
Authentic. Real.
Tasty.
Not like the Riverwalk stuff that makes a person want to set their tongue on fire.

The only place SA has LA beat is in its higher concentration of obese people. It's fucking disgusting to see your overweight and ugly fans on live television, when Charles Barkley is commenting on how fat your city is you know you got issues.
:lmao
Truth in this post. About the weight of the population, anyway. Pretty embarrassing.

Trinity University in San Antonio is the #1 liberal arts college in the west for about the 100th year running.Liar. (http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/brief/t1libartco_brief.php) And there were no national rankings for institutes of higher learning "about 100 years" or 90 years ago based on the criteria USNews uses today smart guy.
