Alright, that fv<king sucked. Definitely hurts. A lot.

Down 3-1 sucks. But thinking about it in a good light, the Spurs played a poor game tonight. Their biggest problem was not being able to grab rebounds. The good news is that the Spurs are usually a very good defensive rebounding team. Percentage-wise, they are one of the best teams of all-time on the season. The Spurs can rebound better.

Offensively, the Spurs can shoot better. Ginobili can step up is game. Barry proved he can play against these guys. Parker and Duncan get their looks.

This is obviously going to be the hardest challenge the Spurs have ever faced but I like the fact that this team always plays its best when their backs are against the wall. It's hard to keep the faith but I refuse to count the Spurs out.

Oh and the Lakers aren't that good. Don't get me wrong, they're a solid ball club. But far from unbeatable. Save your season by winning Game 5. Do that and the Spurs won't lay another egg at home in Game 6.

Sh!t sucks right now but championships aren't easy. Start it off with a Game 5 victory.

Regardless of the outcome of this series (which I still believe we have every chance in the world left in us), we have to remember that these guys never gave up. Game 1 vs. the Suns. 0-2 hole vs Hornets. Down 9 with 3 mins to go in this game. Be proud of what they have done. Be proud that they came back to within 2. All it takes is one win to get this series back on track. Remember the Red Sox. Remember 2006 (albeit with a different outcome, please :)).

Believe.

All I'll say is that this series feels a lot different than the 2006 Mavs series. I felt like we were playing catch up that entire series, but this one, I've felt like we let two games slip away from our hands. We could very well be up 3-1 now, had we taken advantage of opportunites in Games 1 and 4. It's crazy how failure to do so can change a series that much.

But I still believe, I honestly don’t see how but as Timvp said once, it’s time to make history, not just a ring …a freaking nasty well earned back to back championship, beating not just the other teams but also the stupid refs, the media, the ratings/money driven commissioner, the stats, etc.

Maybe, if the Silver & Black play their best possible game and the Lakers don't show up, then they might win 1 more game. That's a big maybe, because the only way we beat these guys is if we play our very best.

But they're not winning 3 against Kobe & co. Not happening. So before you bet a bunch of $$$ on the Spurs to win Thursday ... DON'T! The Spurs have been defeated and Thursday will be a mere formality. We are weaker at every position except PF (and that one's close) than the Lakers, and we have to beat them twice in L.A. Not happening. The Lakers may as well start printing tickets to the Finals, not that I'll be watching.

My personal opinion is that it's over. Spurs could come back if they would be consistent and just play better. But from what I have seen this playoffs, these Spurs need some days off to rest.

They are mentally distraught right now more than I have ever seen.. the guys look and acted beat. Especially Manu.

I think we'll lose 4-2. But I still hope and believe we can do it. But as a logical human being I don't see it happening.

This does feel a lot different than the '06 Mavs series. The Spurs had to play perfect to beat those Mavs, as evidenced by Manu's sloppy foul at the end of Game 7 being the deal breaker. This is virtually the same Lakers team that coughed up a 3-1 lead to the '06 Suns. . . let's check out that lineup. Steve Nash, Boris Diaw, Raja Bell, Tim Thomas, Eddie House, Shawn Marion, Leandro Barbosa. Not exactly the dream team, and far from intimidating. Granted those Suns had two home games, but if the Spurs win Game 5 I'm convinced that they won't drop another game at home.

It will be the toughest thing the Spurs have ever done, but they can do it. But if Michael Finley hasn't lost his starting job to Barry already and is reduced to '08 Suns series Barry-esque minutes, that will hurt our chances significantly.

Any Spurs fans in that boat with me, you are not less of a fan. Just ignore the assholes.

If any team can pull off a comeback against the odds it is the Spurs.

I am honest about the odds, but will keep the candle in the window until the final buzzer.

Don't give up yet. The odds are long, but people still get royal flushes occasionally. ;)

for some reason the pressure is off the spurs now and on the Lakers to close out the Spurs at home. its funny right? you gotta beat these guys. no way they should win on you homecourt, but as we saw with Gasol last night how he choked under pressure by missing 2 FT attempts, anything can happen.

I have already made plans to work on Saturday for game six and to party after our game 7 victory.

Just think of how fantastic this comeback will look on our Championship DVD.

Positives going into game five.
1.) It won't be Eddie F. Rush. If it were, we as might as well quit now.

2.) We are due for a win in LA. We have lost five straight playoff games there.

3.) As xtremesteven just posted, the pressure has shifted. The Lakers younger players might begin to feel the pressure and start reading their numerous press clippings. It's easier to excel when expectations are low. Now they are expected to reach the Finals, especially by their bandwagon fan base.

4.) Spurs are like a family and the defending world champions. They will stay united and play for each other. This is the ultimate test for a championship team. I know they are capable of rising from the dead, but will they?

5.)All it takes is 1 to turn things around.

Thank God for SpursTalk. Here in Lakerland the Lakers have already been annointed the '08 champs. It's no fun.

Thanks timvp, for your always sane, calming presence. And for a thread of peace.

It's doable.

I hate how we basically spotted them Games 1 and 4.

And they look old and slow and tired like the Spurs always seem to in series that they've lost to the Lakers.

I'm a little stunned, because the Spurs should beat this team.

MoSpur
05-28-2008, 02:03 PM
I agree Ghost. This team (Lakers) don't look as good as the Hornets. IMO, the Hornets were better, but obviously it doesn't seem right because the Spurs are down 3-1. The Spurs shot themselves in the foot in Game One and last night. To me, fatigue is wearing down on them more mentally than physically besides Manu.

The question I have is, do the players want this as bad as the Lakers? To me, it doesn't seem like it AT TIMES. Guys like Finely and Horry seem to just be like in another world. Like their planning their vacations already.

The way I see it...The Lakers lost to the Suns in the playoffs when they were up 3-1. And the Spurs were down 3-1 to the Mavs, and they managed to push for a Game 7.

Then again, Lakers are now a different team with Gasol and other players stepping up. Yet, the Mavs were incredibly difficult, offered a ton of match up issues to the Spurs.

I don't know what will happen, honestly.

Can it be done? I believe it can. The question is will they be actually able to do it? That requires not only mental toughness, but execution.

And another thing, perhaps Manu playing like Manu again can do the miracle.

All the pressure is on the Lakers now to close out the series; the Spurs have been left for dead. If the Spurs get their shit together and win game 5, I'm certain they will play in yet another game 7. I rather see that than lose the series in 5 games.

I'm not ready for this season to end. I hope they feel the same way.

Its good to still have hope. Alot of Laker fans might be trashing you guys but I remember I still had hope in 2003 when the Lakes were down 3-1 against the Spurs, unfortunately Horry missed that 3 at the end of the game and that was it. Good luck tomorrow.
