Spurs haircut creates controversy in Texas
An 8-year-old boy's love for the San Antonio Spurs got him suspended from school.
Jessica Segura told Action 4 News that her son Jacob shaved the word "Spurs" in the back of his head in honor of the Spurs/Lakers playoffs.
Jacob attended classes at Palmer Elementary School in Pharr with his new haircut last Wednesday with no problems.
But on Thursday, the school's principal told his mother that he had to go home because his haircut violated the school district's dress code.
The code prohibits students from attending classes with words or images shaved on their heads.
Jessica Segura told Action 4 News that she believes the code is intended for gangs.
She said her son's interest in sports and the Spurs is a healthy and that shaved word was for the playoffs only.
But the school district said the code must be enforced with no exceptions.
The Lakers currently lead the playoff series 2-1 but Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday evening in San Antonio where the Spurs are 7-0 in the playoffs.
Watch our video clip for an interview with Segura and school officials.

Code is Code. If they let him in then they have to let the next kid with the Raiders emblem shaved in his head then were back to the 80's with dorks having their names shaved in their head and parachute pants.

Wasn't that the cheesy 90's? The 80's were the best.

Parachute pants are definitely 80's. Shaving shit in your hair is probably late 80's to early 90's.
As for the kid, rules are rules. Everyone has to learn that lesson at some point.

Should have carved it into his wrist with an eraser like all the cool kids.

Poor guy. First he gets suspended and then the Spurs are down 3-1.
This kid is fucking badass, he totally kicks my ass as a fan. I salute you!

Unfortunately, school dress code rules have become harsh. I work at a school and we have suspended kids for that same reason before... even a kid with a big spur shaved into his head. It looked cool as hell, but it was against dress code. He got sent home for the final three days of school.
The rule is something about it being a distraction to the other students.... whatever... there are more distracting things than a spur shaved into someone's head.

The mother should have asked the school if it was ok before getting the kids head shaved.

Parents should know better. My 10 yr old wears his hair shoulder length. It's fine with me but he knows that as soon as school authorities say anything about it, the hair comes off.

Also remember that this event happened at a school 6 hours away from San Antonio. A kid in San Antonio may have gotten away with it but this school was 6 hours away in Pharr, TX. I know there are quite a few fans down there in the valley but I highly doubt, although please correct me if I'm wrong, as densely populated by Spurs fans so it might not be as acceptable down there. It's solely the mom's fault for not realizing it could pose a problem with the school.
