As of today, there have been roughly 12,726 profiles/registered accounts over the lifetime of Spurstalk.

By randomly selecting a number between 1 and 12726 inclusive, I determined that profile number 3096 is that profile, and inserted this number into the URL code that lets you look at profiles.

Featured profile can be seen here. (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/member.php?u=3096)

-------------

Random post determined along the same theory as the profile.

There are approximately 2.3 million posts to Spurstalk to date.

One random number between 1 and 2.34 million came out to be:

633562

Insert this number into the url that lets you jump to a particular post, and you get this:

Here is post number 633,562 out of 2.34 million. (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?p=633562#post633562) A wacky and zany bit from 2005.

While I like the concept, I'd make it ...of the day, ... of the half-day. Something quicker.

I think this should be a bi-monthly thing.

While I like the concept, I'd make it ...of the day, ... of the half-day. Something quicker.

That would require me to do it really often. I considered it and it is easy.

I figured I might let it out into the internet ether and see if it was interesting to people.

If anyone else wants to take a whack at it:

http://www.random.org/integers/ (no affiliation)

Find someone who has recently joined in the last few days, click on the view profile, and look at the URL. The last number there will tell you what number the server assigned the profile, with the newest having the highest number.

This gives you the upper boundary to use at the above website, i.e. one number between 1 and X.

Then go back to any view profile URL, substitute the number you get at the end, and hit enter.

or just make it random....

A random post/profile selected at random intervals.

Brilliant.

There are 604,800 seconds in a week.

Picking a random second during that week, gets second number 340,940

3 days, 22 hours, 42 minutes and 20 seconds from the time of the first post.

If you want to be really random about this ... you need to do it at a random interval.

So, pick a random moment, and then do your thing. And post it in a random forum.
