Tom Orsborn: Coach Bud has competition
Spurs assistant coach Mike Budenholzer apparently has plenty of competition for the Suns' head coaching job.

According to the Phoenix Suns' Web site, the list of candidates has grown to double figures, including former Spurs Vinny Del Negro and Tyrone Corbin.

Suns general manager Steve Kerr, himself a former Spur, is expected to interview Budenholzer as soon as the Spurs finish with the playoffs.

"Mike Budenholzer is a candidate because he is someone I have an awful lot of respect for," Kerr told Suns.com. "He's done a great job with the Spurs for the past decade or so, and has a lot to offer."

Popovich gave Budenholzer a ringing endorsement before boarding the team charter Wednesday afternoon for the flight to Los Angeles.

"Bud is a quality human being and somebody who really understands the game and would make a fine coach in the NBA without a doubt," Popovich said.

The deadline for the Suns to make a hire is mid-June, Kerr has said.

Los Angeles Lakers assistant Brian Shaw is also a candidate.
