Tom Orsborn: TNT's ratings bonanza
Spurs-Lakers has apparently made for some compelling television.
According to TNT, the network's coverage of Game 4 of the Western Conference finals was the most-watched and highest-rated NBA game on cable this season and the second-most watched NBA telecast of the year, trailing only ABC's coverage of Game 7 of the second-round series between the Celtics and Cavaliers.
Game 4 of the Spurs-Lakers resulted in a 4.8 rating, meaning more than 5.3 million households tuned in.
Through 40 games, TNT's coverage of the playoffs is up 16 percent over the same period last year, TNT said Wednesday in release. The network's coverage of the Western Conference finals has averaged a robust 4.1 rating, a hike of 37 percent over last year's coverage of the Eastern Conference finals.
My understanding was that only the Phoenix Suns bring ratings. :shrug
Not bad for a boring team eh?

But he isn't the Lakers.
Funny that it was Lakers-Spurs, not Lakers-Jazz or Lakers-Nuggets.
But no. You Laker fans are right. The Spurs have no impact on the ratings at all.

That's not true, if you look at any Finals the Spurs were in, you'd notice that they have a negative impact :lol

The Laker fan bait is working perfectly. You think I really give a shit about ratings. :lol
Just goes to show, yet again, that Laker fan always places a high priority on shit that doesn't matter.

How true. (http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/19253444/) They fail in TV ratings just like Manure Gayn00bli fails in flopping :lol

Prior to Game 7 ESPN ran a poll about what WCF matchup people wanted to see more, Lakers/Hornets or Lakers/Spurs. I was surprised to see that the Hornets was the overwhelming winner. I know people don't like the Spurs but there's a ton of history in this rivalry. I'm not surprised it has good ratings.

The Spurs fans gotta realize it's the opponent the Spurs are playing that brings in the ratings, not the Spurs themselves.

Has Los Angeles really become so fucking boring that this many of you people have nothing better to do than sit around and piss on another team's forum? There used to be a lot to do there. Can you just not afford gas money?
Pathetic.

Usually, the Spurs are not one to command ratings but I think in this circumstance, they have added to the ratings by a good margin.
It takes two and both the Spurs and Lakers are doing their part in making this an exciting series to watch. It's the classic Rocky Balboa of sports.
The experienced Champs versus the young promising underdog, who will prevail. The Champs should win because they've been there done that but the underdog is talented.
I wouldn't have it any other way. The league office is salivating for the Spurs to win Game 5 to make this a 7 game series and bring in the megabucks.

Only opponents that have chance to beat the Spurs. Ppl are not interested to watch games that are very predictable.
