The day after the lottery, it was reported on espn's bottom line that the Heat would be intrested in trading the no. 2 pick in this years draft.
What would it take to get the no. 2 pick from our positon. We have 3 picks, Splitter, rights to other oversea players and cash. I would like to see the Spurs at least move up into the top 15 or so.
I love the spurs ,but I must say we really can not go into next year with this roster or we will be in the lottery for sure. We are older and its harder to keep up with the youngsters. See what happens next year against Portland.
Imagine if Chicago were to take Derrick Rose and we could land a Michale Beasley. Wow!
I just wanted to get your thoughts and opinons on this because I want San Antonio to improve next year.
Also, could you give a short list of players you would like see on the Spurs next year? Two guys I would like are Jermaine O'Neal and JJ Redick.
It may not be possible to get these two guys, but I can wish.

The Spurs have nothing, that could get them the 2nd pick, unless your willing to trade a Ginobili.

and even if they did have 'something', Holt et al are not from the Jerry Jones school of wheeling dealing.

Jermaine O'Neal is broken.
I like Redick, but I don't really see him filling a need.
Beasley would be ridiculous, but your not getting him without giving up TP, Manu or Duncan..... and that is not and should not happen EVER.
I'd like to renew our interest in Nocioni and we need bigs... Nene?

Nocioni i don't think is reasonable.
Herrmann is possibly. Nene makes wayyy too much for his production and his injury history. Great player mind you.

Spurs never trade up for a good pick. I think for one they never have enough to offer and for two SA probably too stubborn with selecting some kid they can stick overseas or in the minors. Or three, SA is too cheap too trade up.

1 is true.
2 and 3 are way off.
The Spurs last year wanted I think the kid Miami ended up getting, and at one point I think they wanted Jared Dudley as well...

Well you can understand my head thinking that cause I haven't see us draft like other teams do in years. Like, an American college player or something. Maybe we never have the chance by the time it's our pick cause of the talent? I dunno.

Late first round picks hardly ever work out.
When you get past the middle of the first round, its a crap shoot. Hell, the whole DRAFT is a crap shoot. That Josh Howard pick looked horrible for years, now, it doesn't look that bad just because Josh Howard has imploded in on himself.

Why not trade Manu for Beasley? It sucks, he's my favorite Spur, but trading someone with such promising upside for a player an aging player that is towards the end of his peak is a reasonable trade to make. I like Ginobili but I love the Spurs a lot more.
Either way, this is just pointless talk because it would probably take more than just Ginobili and Splitter's rights to pry away the 2nd pick.

That doesn't seem that outlandish to me. His value will probably never be higher than it is now and with his injuries and wear/tear over the years, I would seriously consider it...

Yeah Beasley is a poor man's Duncan.
I don't even think about it because, for all the bluster about wanting to trade the pick, I think Chicago drafts Beasley, and then Miami takes Derrick Rose, and forms a formidble (if healthy) backcourt.
The Bulls had a shot at making the east very very interesting until they hired Doug Collins.

There is not a Ginobili like player available in the draft.
You ride Manu till he retires. Period.

Even after he loses all of his quickness and doesn't have the same ability to drive to the hoop anymore?

Please. By the time you develop that number 2 pick into something resembling an NBA player, TD will be retired.
Our window of opportunity is right now. The next couple of years. We don't have time to wait for a rookie to develop.
We'll get to rebuilding in due time.

No one is saying trade Ginoboli for "another Ginoboli" but, if we could move him, Splitter and some picks, I would be all for moving into the top 5 of the draft. Rose, Beasley and Mayo could all help this team immediately and do it for a long time to come. Don't get me wrong, I love Ginoboli and all he has done for this team but...you got to give something to get something and, at this time, he seems like the biggest candidate to break down in the next 1-3 years. By then, his value will not be nearly as high and we will be trading him away Scola fashion to pick up some cap space...

So we do have time for some MLE free agent to save the day? Getting someone young, athletic and enthusiastic is what this team needs to stay competitive...not some 30+ year old FA his own team didn't want anymore.

Nah I think you might just dislike Josh Howard.
The Mavericks aren't exactly doing anything for him. On the Lakers or with us I think his game would improve and he would play better for success not for whatever the Mavs hold to their heads.

Beasley is going 1.
Mayo and Rose, thats your opinion, but I wouldn't trade one of the best shooting guards in Spurs history for an unknown.

Great, you trade him for one of these lottery picks, said lottery pick becomes a bust. Then what?

As opposed to holding onto Manu for the remainder of his contract, watching injuries and age turn him into this year's Micheal Finley...Then what? Who will we have of value then to even come close to making a move in the draft for younger players? I suppose, if Manu does continue to detoriate like he has this playoffs, that will take care of itself since we will be the one's hoping our lottery ball hits...

Then you are fucked. But I think it's worth the risk. In a couple of years you have a busted up Manu that's not worth a damn. At least take the chance.

How do you know he will continue to decline?
Hes coming off of a career year where the only thing is slowing him is lots of playoff games, and an injury in the first round. If he doesn't get hurt in round 1, were not talking about "trading" Ginobili.
Its not happening, nor should it.

The only way they would is if they got a huge superstar in return.

Please, Kevin Durant was the second pick in the draft and is big time. Michael Beasley is coming into the league ready to contribute from day one.
Unfortunately we have nowhere near the pieces to acquire him. They have no interest in Manu already having Wade and Marion and we don't have the pieces to fit along in a Tony Parker centered package. Still, even in dreams Beasley looks good in a Spurs jersey.
I wonder if Nocioni or Thomas becomes available from the Bulls should they decide on Beasley instead of Rose.
