San Antonio Express-News
Police this afternoon are searching for a 4-year-old girl who disappeared this morning from a South Side trailer park where she lives.
Around 11:30 a.m., a man in a white van pulled up to the trailer park in the 2300 block of Mission Road and asked for directions, police spokeswoman Sandy Gutierrez said.
The mother of the little girl, Rosa Maria Perez, went inside her trailer, leaving her daughter to play outside, police said. When she went back outside about a minute later, Rosa was gone.
Police said one witness saw the girl being pulled into the van.
Authorities are searching for her by helicopter and patrol car.
An Amber Alert has been activated

Similar incident happened in a trailer park in San Carlos, AZ.
Turned out the day before the plumbing company was doing work on the neighbor's septic tank and they left the cover or w/e open.
Middle of the night the 4 year old kid let himself outside.
They didn't find him until the next day.
Kid was found in the septic tank.

You know Sunshine, like was discussed in the memories of SA thread, being gone from you house all day on your bike was just commonplace when we were growing up and my kids look at me like I'm insane when I tell them that parents used to do that all over the neighborhood back then.
Hell, nowdays I peek out the front window when they just run out to check the mailbox. Sad...
Hope this story has a happy ending.

My children never leave my eyesight or my arms reach. The older ones do but I put tracking dog collars on each of them, we call them mace infused cell phones.

I know what you mean. I try to give my kids a little freedom, but they're also older. But when they were 4 years old, there was no way in hell they were outside, playing alone without an adult unless it was in the backyard, fenced in and even then....not so much. My kids also knew to yell and scream and kick if anyone suspicious approached them, but that doesn't always help when you're literally snatched and drug into a vehicle.
But a 4 year old has no business being left outside alone for even a few minutes.

Thank God.
For a minute there I was concerned about a basketball game.
A little perspective is everything.
I'm glad she's home and safe.

Oh thank God! I hope her mother realizes that this is a GIFT that she was found and never takes for granted her safety. Even for one minute, something can happen.

News reports last night were casting doubt on the moms story of kidnap. She was found wandering around in a neighborhood about a mile away.
The mom looked like a total crackhead, seriously. She probably went inside for 2 hours, not 2 minutes.
