Seems Peja is out..according to the pregame show. I wonder if that's good or bad? I'd venture on bad...feeling pessimistic tonight...don't know why.

Peja = Bowen's beetch. Good call for him to sit this one out. Kinda like how lefties get "injured" when it's Randy Johnson's start.

TOs killing Spurs, keeping SAC in the game.

Tony's jumpers and FTs have gone to shit, ok, so he keeps driving, good compensation. His 2 FTs misses were so bad, they guy is spooked at the line.

The snappy passing is cool, but maybe they're overpassing?

Im not one to complain about the officiating (in fact I hate it when people do that) but I just got home from class and so far I see a travelling violation on Weber that is not called, and a offensive foul called on Horry that was really a defensive foul.

Hows the officiating tonight?

boutons
01-28-2005, 12:45 AM
I'm getting to the point where I wish they wouldn't throw the ball to him. He holds the ball too long, doesn't look for anybody else, esp when he way out on the wing, then he tries to dribble into the paint, ball lost, or he clangs his bank shot, gets tangled up in the double/triple teams.

He can get his points shooting long jumpers, put backs, get his RBs, but quit running the offense through him, it's suicide.

The reason why Tim holds the ball is so that the double team can come and he can pass it out to an open teammate.

He does that to get his teammates involved

I was at the game last night and it was great. I know it got close a couple of times - but you never felt as if the Spurs were going to lose. There never seemed to be a sense of anxiety among the Spurs players - every time SAC closed the gap, the Spurs would step it up and make some key plays.

However, several times during the course of the game, it looked like street ball - I think there were 4 TO's (2 for each team) on one "possession." It was great to get the win, but it was a sloppy game for both teams.

Absolutely NOT sarcastic.

When they throw the ball to Tim, it's so bad now that I tense up, and that's just the start, since so many bad things can and do happen when he has the ball. As he stands out there on the wing facing his man forehead-to-forehead, and rocking the ball back and forth, doing nothing, watching for nobody else, (I'm hoping he won't make the wrong decision and put the ball of floor, which is exactly what the defense wants), the tension mounts. No other Spur is doing fuck all, just watching Tim do nothing, or they are trying to be available for his too-infrequent escape pass. Nobody's cutting down the lane, there's nobody coming off a screen at the elbow or top fo the key for a catch-n-shoot, nada.

When will he stop driving into the paint and double teams? And then scramble around for the ball when it's stripped?

I love to see him post up, but LOW!!, and back his man down, but really wish he, and Rasho, had some low post power moves like Gasol. "Finesse" doesn't get it done in the low post, it's take a power game.

I love the guy, but throwing the ball to him very often kills the possession (TO, clanged shot, fouled but missed FTs). There don't seem to any plays where Tim is supposed to pass the ball. Should I introduce Pop to SAC Asst Coach Pete Carril?

Jermaine Oneal is currently a much more potent scorer than Tim, and Jermaine doesn't waste several seconds deciding what he's going to do. He catches the ball and starts his move often in the same motion, and he's got a ton of moves, including low block power moves.

I suppose Tim can do better, but I guess I'm still shell-shocked from the playoff collapse. Whatever, 35 - 10. I"m trying to see where our weaknesses are now rather than in May, just like Pop. er, SKerr said Pop would have liked the 2nd half last night since it was a better test of the Spurs than when the Spurs were shooting 50+% in the first half and coasting.

The SAC win was the 5th game in a row where the Spurs showed some toughness when the going got a bit rough. A good win, much better than a blowout win.

Thanks, but I went to the game. The Spurs weren't sharp but they did what it takes to put the Kings away. The Kings solved the side screen/rolls with Tony and Tim, particularly in the 2nd half. The Spurs looked totally awful in the pivot, with the exception of Robert and his effort plays. They were huge.

Finally, (4th qtr.) Timmy started to make his moves early when he posted up and it made a big difference. I think Pop finally got through to him that he could get the Kings' bigs in more foul trouble and some easy points that way. Tony didn't seem to want to push the ball in the 2nd half and his assists disappeared, thus Manu had to become the only real backcourt creator.

T-Mass didn't look good at all. That inbounds play off his ass was embarrassing. He showed little effort. I'm glad Horry and Bowen were playing well.
